| I think you may be right about some of it, but...break it down like this...the lyrics are hard to put in a verse chorus format because of the many variations...we'l go with a verse, 3 parts (or a 3 part chorus if it helps), followed by a second verse, another 3 part section, the amazing "I hear him sing" bridge-like part followed by a part I'm not sure on but seems like maybe a final aside....I can't figure it all out either but figured my twist may help....I see the first verse as a person talking to someone else and saying he's a crazy mess and this is why...then the 3 parts are talking about (likely) his/her father and it's not pleasant...the next verse is the person speaking directly to the other person again and this is the only reference to his mother which seems more as a tongue in cheek contrast to his dads fists...the second 3 part section where the person continues to speak of the father, then the bridge part that could be a single fond memory first of the father and then "them" likely the mother being the other...and then the part that keeps me confused...the "I hope he takes you too" that keeps coming up finds itself and makes me think the second person who is being spoken too is the story tellers mother, made odd by the "them" parts...amazing song with great lyrics...just trying to help | |
