well i agree with simplistichic. I think its about all these people in america mostly immagrants who came here for the good old american dreams all these faces living there hard suffering life trying to make a name here on Gods land... and when he say talk to a man that caught a rainbow end means when you see someone who came from nothing and then tells you he is living the American dreams it just gives you this hope to keep pushing to get yours... When he says see those stars looking in her eyes I just visualize the american flag...

In my opinion I would have to say the song is exactly about Pablo Picasso.. My first reason is that in the song he was not mention once and for that the name of the song must have some meaning to the song.... Pablo was a man that always had his paintings from he was dirt poor to when he got a bit establish also through his two marriage and the drama from that... so it is safe to say that painting is his true love of his life... then the song goes on talking about a forty foot tall woman that every body is so amaze by which i think is about his one of his most famous painting Guernica which is his version of the German bombing of Guernica and that painting is about 30 feet long it is now in The Museum of Modern Art in New York so I visualize people passing by taking pics of it tourist etc..She never blink an eye when the camera taking the pics means she is not a living thing.. hence his painting... Ok the chorus is bout an officer taking his love away from him I think because his painting is during the world war and the Nazi didn't like his painting so most his painting were done in hiding so he is saying to them if you take my at the time band painting it is going to be over mine or your dead body and it is going to be all over the news... ok in second verse he said if i had a pistol I will brandish it and wave she is the only one alive that knows I am not crazy...As you know Pablo was around World War 1 and 2 and he refused to fight some people even called him crazy or a coward but he stayed neutral he however explain his feeling about the war through his painting hence " she is the only one alive that knows I am not crazy" the paintings knows why he do the thing he does. "She is gonna testify on behalf of the navy" means when people see his painting they will get his impact or his contribution to the war.... and because of his resistance to the war he even got a peace award... If the whole song didnt explain that its exactly about Pablo the last two line say he is insane for always defending his lady and keep calling her a painting... they weren't just paintings to him they were his life from the prostitute on the street he painted while poor to his political paintings they were all his opinion and love... |
