| Dada – Dim Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
Joie Calio told me personally that Dim refers to some European brand men's underwear that he saw in Europe when Dada was in Europe to record their first record for IRS. True story, no lie. Not that I think the song is about underwear, but inspiration comes from unlikely sources and maybe the word Dim fit, but the song seems more like about relationships. |

| Roland Orzabal – Bullets for Brains Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
I think it is a clever set of lyrics. About religion, its ability to polarize people to be fanatical, on any extreme. My favorite part of the lyrics is about the rocket ship,,,, to make me hip,,,,, and take me to the moon when i lose my grip.... so yes, it has a sarcastic bent to it. |

| Joie Calio – About Monkeys and God Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
About Monkeys and God is more aptly titled THE MAN who made the movies about monkeys and God. This song is a clever bit of writing by Joie Calio, of dada. He is writing about Charlton Heston, the actor who was in the Planet of the Apes, and Ten Commandments, where Heston played Moses. Heston was also the longtime head of the NRA and so this song, aptly I believe, references all the hardliners views about gun advocacy despite the social ills. This song is off Calio's first solo record. |

| Peter Gabriel – Digging In The Dirt Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Digging in the Dirt is about the experience of being sexually abused as a child. Gabriel masterfully conveys the feelings of anger and rage, in both the lyrics and the music, which for me reinforce each others parts to the message. I see the first verse as happening in the present, the second verse a fantasy of past events where this time the child is taking back control of the abusive situation, hence, "this time you've gone too far....i told you....shut your mouth, drive the car, don't turn around, i know what you are...." Interesting how Gabriel puts us in the viewpoint of the victim here, by placing us in the backseat of the car. The backseat of the car is where children ride while the adult drives. "This is for real" is a common statement for an adult survivor to make because vocalizing that the abuse was real is necessary during therapy, to counter many years if not decades of repression and denial. The stanza with "stay with me i need support" brings us back to the current, where the singer is trying to heal. Thank you DexX for commenting about the third verse on the b-side, it furthers my belief that the singer is struggling with the effects of being sexually abused as a child. And finally, the stanza about "feeling it in his sex, that's the place it goes" is an accurate depicting of the insideous nature of how the mind acts to shield the abused victim in order to allow him to survive, even if it causes sexual problems. Sadly, I believe my understanding of this song to be correct. I have thought about it deeply before posting... Mods, please do not remove this post, it is not a joke. Overall, a very difficult song for me to listen. It makes me want to scream like Gabriel does in his vocal delivery of this song. |

| Tears for Fears – Elemental Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I listen to this song on many mornings. It helps me focus my mind on being true to how I am feeling, to admit that I am down when I am down. I think this song is about being authentic and genuine and not putting on a happy face. Another message for me is in the lyric "these days its all in the mind, it's elemental" means for me that experiences that happened to me when I was a child that harmed me deeply, they are in the past, and the fear I feel still today, it is only in my mind, and it is elemental that I distinguish one from the other. | |
| Tears for Fears – Broken Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I can relate to this song's lyrics. Often in the process of self understanding (between the searching and need to work it out), I have stopped and thought , damn, Im fucked up. Sometimes it is too painful to continue when I realize in the moment how my life has been affected. | |
