Conor Oberst – Souled Out!!! Lyrics 16 years ago
I felt the lines,
"Keeps a piece like a whistleblower
Flying kites in the wintertime
Magic carpet is the transportation
Went to the moon in a soda can
Not all my boys believe in science,
Stretching truth in the promised land"

Pretty much just say remember you have an imagination, and even if everything follows all of these rules you can still do them in your mind. And in this way I feel the 'promised land' is either in reference to the freedom of your own mind and as such being 'in Heaven' no matter where you are. ^__^

It's not where you are! It's what you make of it!
Haha, how cliche of me.
Funny thing about cliche's though, they only become cliche's when we say them too much.

Live only for yourself!
Keep the expectations of others out of your mind!
Just ride your bike and listen to that loud music.
SING SING SING YOUR HEART OUT!
DANCE DANCE DANCE UNTIL YOU FALL OVER LAUGHING!

Who want's to go to Heaven anyway?
I like it here. I think I'll make this my place.

Bright Eyes – The Joy in Discovery Lyrics 16 years ago
I like it better as words, but it's simple.
It's just saying the people that are hiding are only hiding because they want to be found.

No matter what you're hiding from, really, all anyone ever wants, is the understanding of others, to feel like someone really gets them. Or, perhaps from a different sense, hiding from something inside of yourself, words you're too afraid to speak, or a feeling you've been trying to hide.

Even if you don't realize it, all you want to do is say those words, all you want to do is make that feeling known.

Bright Eyes – Empty Canyon/Empty Canteen Lyrics 16 years ago
I think it's just about life and moving forward, the water being the happiness you have, and the desert being the world we live in, you walk through it and if you let the heat get to you and drink all of your happiness too fast you'll just lay down and die.

The I Do, I am not really sure about.

Mostly I think it is talking about the drinking the water part.
Though, I find myself thinking it could be talking about the final line also, "Where they they bury the bones that will never be found" The "I do's" being him saying "I want to be found."

Though I have a biased view, as do we all, really I think everyone needs to stop trying to find what was originally placed inside of this box. But open it and discover what they put inside. That's why it's ambiguous.

I like your connection.
Everything disappears, we've got to recognize this or die trying.

Sadness.
The beginning the songs says "I find that life is easier when it is all just a blur."
I think this would be regret, looking back on your life and seeing what you would have changed, and then forgetting it ever happened so it doesn't haunt you. "So when the ending comes the full regret will be obscure"

And the analogy for,"and this tv's old, the colors fucked, you see the difference in the shades/but the greens still close to green my love and i beleive we are the same"

I think, would be the depression and anxiety of death that comes with age, and how, as often when someone is depressed they describe the world is bland, gray, and listless; and how no matter how old we get or how much we try we're all going to fade away eventually, and we all have that in common. Though you could go the more simplistic way and say it just means none of us are as different as we thought we were no matter what shade we are.
