I agree very much with what Cecchinslovakia said about this song. I see the song as being Dallas' reflection of a time when his life was crumbling around him and he found himself in a more hopeless state than he ever had been in before. He feels as if he is overwhelmed, helpless, and lost. Rather than running from these feelings of defeat, he seems to accept them and recognize the low he is currently stuck at in his life. The lines "So say goodbye to love" and "All your friends seem like enemies When you're broken down and empty" makes me think that he has been dependent on a soul mate of sorts when he was in a fragile stage like the one he is in now but possibly a recent shortcoming with a girl has made him cynical and doubtful that anyone else, whether a friend or a lover, can help. While I don't know Green's view on heaven or God, I view the line "Hope in a better place is all I need" as a realization that everything on earth that he has tried to use as happiness alludes him in his current time of hurt and that a God or spritual connection is the only thing left that can heal him. I feel as if I relate verrry well to these lyrics and that's just my opinion of the song. Agree or disagree, I'd like to know what you think as well. |
