The Dear Hunter – Stuck On A Wire Out On A Fence Lyrics 14 years ago
... Pleading Insanity? Staring at the Sun. Fashioning ends of oblivion (rather, doing something over again with no new result). But, it's all a misconception. Leaving breadcrumbs back to Central Station....

The Dear Hunter – Deny It All Lyrics 14 years ago
Wow! Good catch. I'm still trying to figure out what's going on in this act. Thus far, I've figured out that he's been discharged from the military and torn about what he's done while abroad: AND met up with Ms Leading again (later in the act, of course)... I'll figure the rest out, s'pose.

Still, nice catch on the prey/pray. We all know how he likes wordplay of this type.

Coheed and Cambria – Far Lyrics 15 years ago
As interesting as the theories that Etherealfrog and jezdamayel have put forth, they are completely off-base. Sorry, but true.
Actually, this takes place long before Coheed and Cambria are created and just before the Doctor even conceives of their creation. KQRulz3000 and Zorlin are correct in that this song is about another couple in the story.
This song is about Dr Leonard Hoenberger and Pearl Hoenberger's marriage falling apart after the death of their son, Joseph, by the hands of Wilhelm Ryan's Red Army at a "peace rally" to protest the Mage War turned violent (awesome imagery used by Sanchez/David to depict the scene).
Pearl blames Leonard for the death of Joseph, as he was the one who succumbed to Joseph's rhetoric and allowed him to attend the rally and voice his opinions. Leonard, as well, blames himself for Joseph's death. And so, allows the onslaught of Pearl's wrath, which is just about the only emotion she shows anymore after the death of HER son (HER's, not Leonard's; well, not how she sees it anymore). Her Feelings persist in this manner until ... Well, I don't want to give the WHOLE story away just yet.

Regina Spektor – Après Moi Lyrics 15 years ago
Well played; if a bit abrasive. I could use more people like you in my circle of friends to keep me in check: My head gets a bit big sometimes.

For years, I've tried to figure this song out. But, like you said, "it has all the hallmarks of a stream-of-consciousness piece." I think this song is Spektor's interpretation of a specific (possibly non-specific) event. It's rather open-ended and my friends and I have debated over its meaning. Lately, however, I find myself forgetting the significance behind the piece and losing myself in the beauty. That's pretty much where I stand now.

Regina Spektor – Après Moi Lyrics 15 years ago
"Be afraid of the cold; they'll inherit your blood." the cold + blood = bloodsuckers = vampires (mythological, metaphorical, literal, and other -als as well). At least, that's what I've always thought. least ,

The Dear Hunter – The Poison Woman Lyrics 16 years ago
I was conflicted as to why The Dear Hunter ever ended up with the apothecary in the first place. I mean, what would've prompted him to seek her services? This question plagued me until I realized that the apothecary is not a poison maker, it's a medicine fabricator. You can get all kinds of drugs from those sorts of people. So, maybe he ended up with antifreeze because his war buddies were using it recreationally and the apothecary let them know that a single drop is more than enough, telling them to not overdo it or they'll die... I suppose...

The Dear Hunter – The Tank Lyrics 16 years ago
He's become a war machine. He just plows through his enemies (he's very good at what he does)."You've stained your skin and I won't stick around" is him talking to a fallen soldier that he's not going to sit and watch die. "Was I one of them" suggests that he feels dead inside. "Arm and iron conquer heart and soul" along with "His plot is perfect if it sees no contradiction" supports this. As long as he disconnects himself for the "disconnect[ing] souls" who "beg for bliss", he can stay alive.

The Dear Hunter – Vital Vessels Vindicate Lyrics 16 years ago
I view the line "The flame is gone but the fire remains" as such...

In Act I, the prologue states that a woman (Ms Terri) was led of into the flame of love. It also states that t"To death and life, as hand in hand." The woman lost one love and gained another. As far as the flame being gone and the fire remaining, just view the flame as a love flame and the fire as The Dear Hunter--a love child.

Now, here at the end of Act II, we hear that same line again with almost the same inflection. This leads me to anticipate a love child of his own with Ms Leading which, of course, would add a whole shit-ton of material to fill in four more albums.

The Dear Hunter – Red Hands Lyrics 16 years ago
A-a-a-agreed!... mostly. He knows she's a whore. And, even if she wasn't a whore and they were together, he'd always suspect infidelity.

"Maybe this all just a work of art..."
He's coming to grips with it all. He's accepting her profession. Hence the, "you can't be caught red handed if you're not red handed." Accusing a whore of infidelity would be like accusing a war vet of murder.

A sound theory which, unfortunately for me, shoots mine to shit.
I figured the river was the taking of her own life. But, I couldn't figure out how the lake fit into that.... Now, I have to throw that idea in the trash... Damn it!

The river is The River Styx (well, not exactly). It's the same river in which she contemplated suicide in after the loss of her love.

Bleed myself dry is a metaphor. She's tapped out; can't go on. She's out of cash, and out of the will to strife forward.

The Dear Hunter – The Inquiry of Ms.Terri Lyrics 16 years ago
"A home removed, a life resumed right here..."
She's gone right back to what she left behind; The Dime.

"... the bond between me and me has long since been broken..."
The two separate lives (the life she wanted and the life she can't escape) can never meet each other because they are so terribly different.

"A boy who's grown too short to see..."
The child is old enough to see what's going on around him, but isn't comprehensive enough to understand what it is that he sees. Also, "The Fire" that remains after the flame has gone is the boy; a love child, and the reason Ms Terri didn't kill herself.

"A life once lived behind close doors..."
She no longer hides her profession from her son.

"Touch, taste, feel it ripping me down..."
Obviously with a client.

"That Dime, burn it to the ground"
Afterwards, she confides in her son, telling him that one day, they will be completely free of The Dime; even at the expense of making no Dime to come back to--again...

"The inquiry of Ms Terri, the expiry of misery, the table turns the sun along, the riverbed and he's alone"
Upon closer inspection of Ms Terri, she's happy, relatively. Sure, some days are better than others, but it's better than being dead and leaving her son alone.

"The object of affection, conflicted by convictions of indecency, sorority, corrupted by impropriety."
She loves her son, but is conflicted by her apparent need to stay in order to provide for him, even at the expense of risking his social well-being.

This is actually a specific situation where a caller is freaked out by the boy's presence and becomes violent toward Ms Terri.
"The cavalier she hopes of him..."
She hopes the caller won't care...
"... in dissonance with experience..."
... even though experience tells her that this will go sour.
"A boy who grows--with knife in hand,"
Her son watches--with his weapon of choice...
"... to fend for her--becomes a man."
...ready to defend his mother--and now understands what it is that his mother does.

"But she plays fake affection and carefully lacks objection to the gentleman caller's twisted desire."
She calms him down and acquiesces to his "twisted desires" (whatever they might be) with a willing purr.

"We dance around the room. 'My love, I'll carry you, and I'll teach you how to treat that Leading lady you'll marry.'"
After the altercation, she dances with her son and lets him know that she'll always take care of him. Then, she lets him know that you should never treat a woman the way she was just treated.

"We dance around the truth. 'My dear, I lie for you. But, when I lie down, I'm simply lying to them, too.'"
Her son asks her about her profession. She knows he understands what's going on. But, she still plays coy, and lets him know that she's lying to him for his own good.

...
But...
I could be wrong.
