At the begging he's seems to not have won her yet 'And it's a lottery, I can't wait to draw your name' and he is desperate to, but he realizes that she could find someone else before he make his mark or shows that he cares, 'but time isn't on my side'. 'If the truth is the worse I could do, then I guess that I have lied' could refer to how he want to just tell her up front that he is irrevicably in love with her but knows that might scare her away; he's doing anything he can to make her interested in him, even if it involves pretending incoherance. Then in the next verse he seems to question weather everytihng's as it should be 'Keepin me awake, it's been like this now for days, My heart is out at sea and my head all over the place'; she's messing him up.'I'm loosing sense of time': he's just partying to forget and getting drunk when he feels he won't win her. The line 'and everything tastes the same' could refer to food or girls; every kiss is just meaningless, unless it it hers. 'I'll be home in a day, I fear that's a month to late' could mean he'll sort his head out in a day/or a while but by that time she could be gone or not interested at all. 'That night I slept on your side of the bed.' could be when he's finally got her he's starting to realise how different they are; while she parties/cheats he's at home making sure she'll be comfortable when she's back 'So it was ready when you got home'. 'We're like noughts and crosses in that, Opposites always attract': a relationship is about balance just as life is, give and take, yin and yang. it makes the world go round. basically it's the story of a relationship: wanting it so badly, finally being together and realizing you're opposite and you will get hurt along the way, having arguaments and splitting up, getting back together and questioning everything about yourself so that you question why and if the person you love truely loves you enough to stay with you forever, like you want them to. |
