He also realizes his mistake, and it's his way of "repenting" because he feels guilt and doesn't want to go to hell for a simple mistake. |

The song is narrated by the vocalist of the band who lived in the same neighborhood the shooting took place in and like anyone else who hears about violence in their town they want to know the details of it, who was it? How did it happen? When was it? Why would this happen? So he pictures it all in his head, the "hotel scene" of the story has the killer contemplating suicide because of the overbearing guilt of killing an innocent teenager. The narrator is in the room next to the shooter's when he starts screaming "Can I still get into heaven if I kill myself?!". The narrator (as most would) then abandoned the scene because he did not want to witness what was about to happen, hence "I left the hotel behind, don't want to know how it ends". The ending was designed to peak our emotions and consider a deep question before dropping off and leaving us to wonder (or research) if the killer actually did take his life, or if he was talked out of it. |

Anybody who thinks this song has anything to do with Halo is wrong, and really stupid. The song is about hardships the band faced while transitioning from Ronnie to Craig. In fact, the first time they performed it live Max adressed it as "If I can Stay Clean I can Stay With my Band" referring to Ronnie's drug use. Dakine4eva, it's not Ronnie's song, Max wrote it, why would Ronnie ever work with Craig? |
