Okay I have a version of this from walnut whales, that continues on past the last line listed here, Has anyone else heard this version? I have a hard time interpreting it, but it's a different feeling from the Milk-eyed mender version. (Most of the songs from walnut whales are slightly different lyrically, and some different inflections in tone). For one what I seem to be hearing in the middle of this version is "Bitch! you laws of property/ Bitch! you free economy/ Bitch! You unending afterthought/ you could have told me it would..." Maybe I'm hearing that wrong (Peach Plum Pear always sounded like "Made me bold like a whore" to me haha) But this is much more aggressive, even without the expletive that is the impression I get from this song, a similar disgust for dilettante world of pseudo-intellectuals in higher education as "Inflammatory Writ". here's what I hear beyond "you forget that you must eat" ( very tentative, only a few words I'm sure of like "skin to cover" is definitely being sung) "In your gilded hands(?)/ In Music seems I must (..?) somethings turnover like (br....?) I see Shrapnel whiz by tongue of people (?) going to see where each note ends (?) ..... bodies hung....? enough terror (fervor maybe?) enough toes Skin to cover the rests of bloody feet (?) enough belly (?) enough feet" I'm hard of hearing so I have a tough time deciphering lyrics, and its twice as hard when it's her older records (her articulation gets clearer on Have One on Me I think :P) |

"my heart became a drunken runt" "Eventide" "just like they told you it would just like the Tugleywood" "untidy furrows across my soul" "fool commands" "(for it has half-ruined me, to be hanging around, here among the Daphne blooming out the big brown I'm a native to it, but I'm overgrown On the earth, as rich as roe here down in California )" From the songbook |

These are the lyrics from the song book. I found a little plot of land, in the garden of Eden. It was dirt, and dirt is all the same. I tilled it with my two hands, and I called it my very own; there was no-one to dispute my claim. Well, you'd be shocked at the state of things- the whole place has just cleared right out. It was hotter than hell, so I laid me by a spring, for a spell, as naked as a trout. The wandering eye that I have caught is as hot as a wandering sun. But I will want for nothing more, in my garden: start again, in my hardening to every heart but one. Meet me in the garden of Eden. Bring a friend. We are gonna have ourselves a time. We are gonna have a garden party. It's on me! No, sirree, it's my dime. We broke our hearts, in the war between Sr. George and the dragon, but both, in equal part, are welcome to come along. I'm inviting everyone. Farewell to loves that I have known. Even muddiest waters run. Tell me, what is meant by sin, or none, in a garden seceded from the union in the year of A.D. 1? The unending amends you've made are enough for one life. Be done. I believe in innocence, little darlin. Start again. I believe in everyone. I believe, regardless. I believe in everyone. |

| also think "Laying down by the good intentions paving company" would make more sense as a road "laid down by the good intentions paving company" | |

I think "And the guilt of this strained nation" is "and the tilt of this strange nation" "I've got trouble even opening a honey jar" is "I've got trouble even opening a front door" |
