-I think it’s about his friend and she is carefree, adventurous, believes in him and is the type that always believes everything will work out in the end. Being careful, thinking things through, and wondering about all the possibilities were left for him to do. Unlike her he doesn’t believe in himself and doubt his abilities. I think that in ways he was jealous of the fact that she was adventurous, carefree, and the believer. But he decides to ’swim in the river’ with her. Which I think could mean several things, but I perceive it as being something common and less literal, like doing drugs and becoming addicted to it. It doesn’t take long for the addiction to kick in and felt as if like a tsunami rushing towards them so quickly they can‘t doin anything to prevent it or stop it. As he see them both leading down the path, he can feel that it’s not going to be good and that it take them both down. He begins to wonder what she was think when she called for help, she’s much worse in drug then he is. She is deep in the water, their friends told him not to help, that she is to far in the river to be saved, only she can save herself. But he is the only one who is brave enough. He begins to realize being the ‘believer’ comes with much pain. He wants out, but he doesnt want her to think she’s alone. He wants to save, and she has already come to realize that she needs help. But she keep getting worse and further and further into the addictions. She thinks that he will be able to save, and he feels as if she trust too much in his bravery, and the deeper she gets the more she is killing him and risking his life. And he has a feeling that they both will drown in this, he cant go on like this any longer, the adrenaline is rushing through his veins. The addiction has almost swallowed him whole. When he finally reaches her, he offers a hand to hold and get through the rough times ahead. Everyone begins to believe that he will save. And he tries and tries and tries but something is pulling her back. He could tell she struggling to be freed, but couldn’t. she was already to far gone. He tells her it will ok and she tells him it will be ok also. During her journey he realizes that people may want the truth but the don’t want the pain that sometimes come with the truth. I think the river wash me clean part is him feeling guilty wishing that it could him instead of her or maybe took take him away now because he feels guilty that he didn’t save her and blames himself. I think this song could also be about a girl who has an eating disorder, and he tries to save her and he goes through a lot of what’s above to save her, except without him having a problem like an addiction or ed. But he ends up unable to save her, feeling guilty. |

my guess is Her lies all seemed so sincere and true at the time he was told them and now that he knows the truth, he feels he only has himself. He's trying to get out of and escape the relationship, but he isn't sure how.the hands he once held for stability and a strong foundation has left an impact and imprint on him. but what he believed was his 'anchor' and stability wasn't real, without stability he can't stay a float and he is the one who is suffering from her lies and sinks in her sea of selfish lies.the past isn't far behind him, it's closely following him. his past wont leave him alone, it's haunting him. he didnt plan for it to be this way, at all but felt as if it was the only way.he had to walk away from the relationship compromise in his head he is considering the options to end and ways to finalize the relationship and marriage. he leaves her and leaves his wedding ring to show her that it is over and to finalize it for himself also in a way. and i think in the chorus he is driving away and in his car he has pictures of him and her. and he is thinking in the back of his head if she would just give him one reason to stay he might, but he decides he doesn't want to hear what she has to say at the time. I also think that as he is driving he is thinking how she played him and acted as if this was just a game. But to him it wasn’t a game. She meant everything to him, and he’s serious about his feelings. So now they both are pointing their fingers at someone else, trying to blame it on them. She can’t see clearly how much it all meant to him. He feels as if he was invisible in her plans, as if he wasn’t a factor nor concluded. But when he wasn’t invisible she always analyzed him critically. It was like he was tied to the dream of her by a rope, and he couldnt stray away from the dream of her, because of the rope restricted him from doing so. But that rope is disappearing. I’m sure really what the symbolism for the grey is in the song but my thought is since Gray imparts void, emptiness, sorrow, and lack of movement, emotion, warmth and identifying characteristics. Because of this, gray can be restful. It has a detached and isolated feeling so maybe it’s saying if something’s or someone is filled with sorrow, emptiness or contains a lack of emotion or warmth to others don’t waste your time, walk away. And like some colors start bleeding, some people just start to fade, and broken. Don’t let yourself become one of the color that has begun to bleed. To guard yourself to make sure you don’t allow that to happen to you. I think he might be saying that that’s what happened to her, that she lost her flair. She always defended her secret, letting no one in, keeping everything to her self. Leaving her to become isolated. She was claiming her past loves and regrets. She hid her goal and objective to protect her from any of the blame. The words she used to speak moved heaven and earth in his eyes, what she had to say use to mean so much to him, but after all the lies nothing he hears from her mouth he believes. her lies all felt so true, but they were a just a sea of words without a meaning. Her solution to things is to run and hide from her problems, but he wants her to face her problems. He doesn’t want to wait for the kiss he has been wanting. Acting as if there was deep, strong feelings to make the moments last. Because time runs out. Life is short. So break from the crowd, be your own person. Leave all the sarcastic and insincere people. Do what you yearn for before your times runs out. |
