| Elliott Smith – Whatever (Folk Song in C) Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I am a recovered heroin addict and have been in and out of drug phases for a long time. This song may or may not be about heroin specifically but is not doubt about drugs. There is a better chance it is about heroin or harder drug use going by the way elliot describes it in the song. The song is PLAINLY about someone who is using with elliot but his telling him hes done with drugs. Except for you and me who just came to use ^i mean come on, the first two lines tell you the song is about two people using drugs. |

http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=16990 yeah it sounds like conor wrote it about buying drugs. whether truth sol them heroin, it seems like he ended up making it more about opiates. |

| yeah it sounds like the blande afghan was selling heroin and the balck man was high. ice cream grin is an axample of conor putting drug references into songs but hiding them with clever words and phrases. | |

This song is about heroin/opiate use in my opinion. I believe the dont buy from man named truth could be a reference to a dealer. The whole part about running from pain, well it sounds like someone using heroin. It takes all physical pain from your body, and after repeated use you start having painful withdrawal. It sounds like conor moved out of a city (we all know conor is always on the move) and started using opiates a lot. morphine drip is a reference to the drip from snorting heroin. the whole ice cream grin and heroin part is just conor's clever way of saying he bought some heroin and got high like the black-skinned man. gold should be thought about openly, symbolizing a perfect feeling. all in all hard drug use is a horrible thing. |
