Poor girl is afraid of love, and she knows its messing everything up. She knows most men worth a damn can't handle her fear/insecurity/lack of trust etc. and think and say all kinds of things because they misunderstand. " Call me 'evil', call me 'tide on your side' (a possible reference to feminism?) anything you want" She's not a mean, emasculating, feminazi b@*#h, or at least she doesn't mean to be, but quite likely that's how her fear driven behaviors are labeled. I like the line " if you keep your silence silencer on you'll talk yourself right into a job" She means that she knows she contributes to the dysfunction but if he forgives her/realizes its not personal ("not because you feel something for me or don't feel something for me")and sticks around and keeps talking, they might have a chance. She is admiting her fault, and hopes he will admit his and not stonewall her. She wants to go forward, but she's just so scared she doesn't know how. She's got issues and she knows it, but she still wants a chance at love even though it terrifies her- "but I walk the missionary way" They are both scared - he is hiding and so does she "there are days I am your twin, peekaboo hiding underneath your skin". I don't quite follow the "little sister" conversation, but using the term "little sister" makes me think they have succeeded at least in relating to each other in a positive way, as humans at least. Maybe she is relieved that he didn't feel that way i.e. he DID understand. Or maybe she addresses herself, asking for her own compassion and forgiveness for her issues? Maybe they have a nice civil understanding conversation but end up parting anyway? Personally, and this interpretation is personal of course, I have to hope they end up together. I find the ticking clock- ish music to be highly appropriate, either as a backdrop to her anxiety or her desire to hurry towards a resolution of some sort. Good song. Suede. Mine really was like suede. lol Love is soft and comforting too, at the same time its scaring the life out of you. |
