I just recently started thinking about the meaning of this song. I take the title kind of literally, that he is actually singing to a dead body. I think of the parallels between this and parts of ITA,OTS - mostly the idea of someone keeping a dead body around and making it move with breath and fingers and whatnot. I think that someone close to him (the character from which the song is being told) has died and he's not ready to let go, so he's keeping the body around and pretending that they're still alive for just a little while before anyone realizes that the person is dead.
I dunno. My interpretation will probably change every time I listen to it. |

What makes these lyrics some of my favorites are that I interpret them differently each time. Of course there's the context of Ian's suicide, but rarely do I take them to be directly about his depression or suicidal tendencies. I refuse to read other people's thoughts when it comes to this song, as not to taint the ever-changing meaning that I draw from it. <3 you Ian. |
