This song is simply about brotherly love in general. Everyone is either your brother or sister on this earth and you should treat them as your own flesh and blood. It's quite religious, in fact, as you can tell from the capitalization of "Father" and "His." To paraphrase: When I am weary, don't treat me like a stranger; God wouldn't like it and may punish you. Do I not deserve to be treated with compassion, according to God's will? We are all born and we all die and are saved. We only have so much time on this earth and we should spend it being kind and loving. To be clear, I am not religious, but I do like the message of the song and think Andrew Bird's version is beautiful. BTW, I love the Royal Tenenbaums. One of my favorite movies of all time and definitely Wes Anderson's best work. |
