i love it too!!! his lyrics are so clever and not so cliche- love love love it but i feel like the song in general is about throwing away the cold comfort of knowing you're unharmed to know the risks in life that make life fulfilling. thus, the world coming alive from the dead of Winter and risking plunging rather than staying on solid ground. let's face it- the world is a better place when we put our hearts out there and keep each other warm. the person the speaker addresses is being addressed as Winter. the part you pointed out i feel like it's just saying i'm here to help you through your hard times. i'm here, i can see your pain and that you want things to change. the eyes letting through rivulets though she's icy signifies she wants to change, the paint - well i haven't figured that out but it could be her words- what she wishes she could be painting that picture of the ideal her/situation, and her lungs crystallizing is her freezing up because to take that first step and make that change by yourself can be very challenging. he goes on to say that he'll travel the distance and he'll break glaciers and whatnot to help her through. |

in a general sense i think it is about feeling that it's futile to make a change you want to make in your life because you are being held back. from here, it's open to many interpretations- like wanting to move on from a past relationship or even changing part of yourself. everyone looking in from the outside says it's so easy but it's not. whispers from within are beating you down and your past has a hold on you and it feels like you can't escape. so you find an alternate and less meaningful way to rise by shooting others down. the vulture is negatively connotated because it is a bird of prey. but it's also symbolic of zeus, a grecian god, so in a way it could be talking about not being able to escape from your fate if anyone else follows my line of thought... but i just love this song. at least for me it encompasses a wide variety of situations and it ties to what i'm having to go through right now and it's really helped in a cathartic sense- it doesn't need a meaning just a feeling. |
