this song is obviously about leaving the stressful city life with the good pay in order to seek the real beauty and happiness of life. proud mary refers to someone probably his girl who cannot leave this all behind and her "burning" means her dying and longing for something more but her unwillingness to leave behind the only thing that is keeping her from true happiness while he's happily rolling on the river |

this song is so much of what i'm going through i thought i loved him and i thought he felt the same way but the truth is that we didn't really have those feelings for each other not now. so i had to let him go even though he is a great guy i just can't love him because he wasn't the right guy for me and i guess he probably felt the same way Maxwell feels in this song. it's just the wrong timimg. makes me wanna cry but not really i had to let go of what wasn't mine. kind corny but watever |
