The Decemberists – Of Angels and Angles Lyrics 13 years ago
When I heard this song for the first time, I didn't think "suicide". I smiled when I listened to this because it painted a picture of a casual, carefree relationship where one slowly becomes muddled with the other, where two can leisurely become one without much fuss.

This was just my interpretation, though; it's different for everyone.

"won't go to waffle house or your moms house..." Won't = We'll go.
I think.

But yeah, love this song. :D

Jack's Mannequin – Meet Me At My Window Lyrics 15 years ago
Because of how I interpreted this song, the lyrics are almost like a lifelong anthem of mine.

To me, this song was a plea for help, guidance. It was a plaintive cry made by someone tired of being in control. Someone who wants (needs) another to take hold of the wheel for a change. ("Come on, you could change me")

I also like to think that it's about offering yourself up to someone when you're oblivious to the blatant truth of yourself--you barely know who you are--and you're desperate to figure out who "you" are. ("You could steal me / You could turn all the lights on / And show me the real me")

It speaks to my submissive nature, my desire to be under the care (and, to some extent, the control) of someone else, someone I hope to entrust my life with. ("You could steal me" and "I could use a hero right now / You could use someone to save / Someone like me / Someone who's not brave / Someone who's not free")

"With the darkness, cometing down" -- This could be metaphorical for someone near their breaking point with life's struggles. They need outside help, they know they can't conquer their own battles by themselves. ("I could use your saving now")

"My window" could have some deeper meaning, as when you look at a window, you see THROUGH the glass. It's clear, and unblocked by defenses such as curtains or blinds, it won't hide the actuality, the truth of the matter. "Meet me at my window" could ultimately mean "see me for who I am," and ultimately, I think it's a call for acceptance as well.

(NOTE: My opinions are my own. Each person is entitled to their own interpretations of song lyrics, because no two people have the same experience in life. The words of songs, as in poetry, are solid, but the meanings that run deep beneath the text are unique to the eyes reading it, the brain processing it, the heart feeling it.)

Breaking Benjamin – I Will Not Bow Lyrics 16 years ago
The chorus is a powerful anthem. I'm not quite sure about how I feel about the song as a whole, but the chorus... it was genius, and it spoke to me.

"everyone has it all wrong..." <-- How can you be wrong about your own interpretation of a song?

Don't you love how it means different things for other people, though? The beauty of good music.

(And tartar sauce? Hmm.)

I agree completely! His songs are always so... unconventionally delicious. And the lyrics? It's pure poetry--you could easily take the lyrics and speak them as you would with a poem.

Owl City – Hello Seattle Lyrics 16 years ago
One of my current favorite songs. (: Though... my dad looked at me weird when I announced I was an albatross one day. Sigh.

I agree with a lot of the comments here... This seems like a song with a façade of happiness, and beneath the thin ice is this stifling sorrow. It makes me feel contained, like I need to be set free.

Okay, I'll stop. Amazing song; definitely recommend it!

Panic! at the Disco – Northern Downpour Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is probably my favorite P!ATD song. It's got that bitter pessimistic edge to it, but at the same time, it inspires me to accept harsh reality and make the most of it.

The whole point of music lyrics--as with almost any form of creative writing--is for you to interpret it as you will. What a song means to one person might not correspond with what someone else thinks.

"But melt your headaches, call it home" -- I'm pretty sure both 'melt your headaches' and 'call it home' are used as verbs. It follows up "I know the world's a broken bone." I think it's telling you to simply accept the hardships and flaws found in life, and... well, "call it home."

Massive Attack – Inertia Creeps Lyrics 16 years ago
I love this song--the smooth beats, the thumping drums, the monotonous vocals... The first time I heard it, without paying attention to the lyrics at all, I felt the charge of dark, rich sexuality. It's so intoxicating, listening to this song. The music video's good as well.

"Two undernourished egos, four rotating hips" -- Sheer poetic brilliance; probably my favorite line.

Inertia Creeps is one of the few songs that gives me goosebumps and makes me shudder in all the right ways. So fucking amazing.
