| Jeff Buckley – Witches' Rave Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| I read somewhere that Jeff was staying in a friend's house for a couple of months, living with his friends' girlfriend also. I also heard that Jeff formed a relationship with his friend's girlfriend... I think this is what this song is about, seeing as he talks about cheating when the boyfriend has left the house, and trying to act natural and pretend nothing's going on when he comes home again. | |

I think this song is about someone who hangs about with the wrong people, and gets involved with generally evil people ("I drank some dirty water / Shook evil hands"). They were hesitant about being persuaded to be evil themselves at first, but now, it's "easier to do". Then, they're shunning religion and God, and therefore being consumed entirely by evil. They don't want to be bothered by religion anymore, and the morals that is attached to religious beliefs, and so don't have tacknoledge the sins they've committed. ("Don't you dare / Come and bother me no more"). Then, they say that before becoming 'bad', they had a friend that they were close to, but now that they're no longer 'good', they either ruin that relationship, or are a bad influence on that person, turning them rotton ("I could only destroy"). Basically, they're saying that they're not worth being cared about, because they'll just ruin you. ("Baby don't you bother / Tasting the water / Baby don't you bother / Coming closer to me"). They're not the same person any more than they once were ("When you see my eyes / They're half the size"), and it's not the same. So, they don't want anyone to be close to them, for fear of hurting them. |

| I get the feeling that this is about someone who is in a relationship, and has control over their partner. Also, I get the feeling of some angry lovin' too. :) | |
| The Dead Weather – I Can't Hear You Lyrics | 15 years ago |

The correct lyrics (by the CD booklet, and general listening) are: I can't hear you You're talking to yourself And what you're used to Don't work on no one else I'm gonna teach you And keep you for myself I'm gonna take you by the hand I'm gonna walk you to my house So I can hear you Look up and say so Naive be so naive You're stashing money And rubies up your sleeves I'm gonna teach you You're never gonna leave I'm gonna make you understand There's nobody you can trust But me I can't hear you You're talking to yourself And what you're used to Don't work on no one else I'm gonna teach you And keep you for myself I'm gonna take you by the hand I'm gonna walk you to my house I want to hear you I want to hear you You're talking to yourself And what your used to Don't work on no one else I'm gonna teach you And keep you for myself I'm gonna take you by the hand I'm gonna walk you to my house So I can hear you I want to hear you I want to hear you I want to hear you I want to hear you |

| The White Stripes – Passive Manipulation Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song is talking about the difference between a suitable husband and someone you love. Meg is saying to them that the man you marry, or fall in love with doesn't have to be approved by your brothers (who would be protective of another man with you). She's saying "listen to your mothers", who would tell you that you should marry for love, and not for fiananical stability, etc. since you might be in an unhappy marriage. "You need to know the difference between a father and a lover". This just refers back to the "father" type man that you're brothers would approve; someone sensible, protective, wealthy who will take care of you. There's a difference between that and passion. My two cents. :) | |

| i love the irony of the "stand by your man" pinball machine. something tells me that jack is kind of insecure when it comes to love. in lots of his songs he always talks about messing up, and ruining a relationship, just because he had no confidence. like in this song, where he basically killed this relationship because he thinks the girl is too good for him. and then, in "a martyr for my love for you", he's basically saying that he's learned now that he needs to back away from relationships, to stop himself from screwing them up. i love that man. :) | |

| can i just say, to the people who keep posting the similarities between the white stripe's songs and other people's.. there are only a certain number of ways notes can be arranged, so obviously, with the billions of songs there are out there, that there's bound to be similarities between some. and, i have listened to these songs that jack apparently "ripped off" and i must say that, i can hear some things are the same, but really, it's just the general tone of the song that i think is similar. especially with "a martyr for my love for you" and "last dance with mary jane". it's not necessarily the notes, but the tone/mood the song has. just something to consider! :) | |
