okay, so the song really is about heroine. it's not because addicts use black balloons as tourniquet (that's way to specific to have to hunt down a party supply store when you are jonesing for your next fix), however, heroine is delivered tied up in a black balloon. This is because when a runner/dealer is carrying the drug, they are only really moving by night. If they encounter police, or just feel that they may be in danger for the possession of the drug, they can drop the black balloon under a parked car, or in a planter. It's virtually undetectable during the night, and once the dealer feels the coast is clear, he/she can go back and safely recover the balloon(s) before dawn. Oh, and I think I must disagree with the notion that she was in childbirth. It's hard to take the line "that was your womb" literally since it's preceded by the phrase "and scatter like ice from the spoon" mainly because it is also a reference to the preperation of illicit intravenous drugs. I think that is better explained by the fact of when you are an addict, you find your comfort zone within your drug usage. The womb is a comfort zone. Comin' down the world turned over; when you are high, the world is of course going to look a little better, but when you "come down" reality takes over. Chances are, if you are a substance abuser it is because you lack some skills necessary to cope with reality. But, I think the rest of your analysis is spot-on. |
