| The Beautiful Mistake – On Building Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| When I first watched the video I was extremely moved. In my opinion, I found quite a similarity in the man that offers the woman the card, to that of Jesus the Christ. That idea of Loving someone so fully and so passionately that you would take the blame for their wrongs is something I believe is at the core of Jesus' life. The man in the video sort of gives her a "get out of jail free card" which she uses at the end. That scene that cuts back and forth between the two being beaten is so profoundly moving to me. I keep thinking "by his scars we are healed." I don't know if this is what the band meant by the video, but that idea of sacrificial Love is something I found in it. This video in my opinion does a beautiful job giving a visual of something that is often times very abstract to most people. I love it! | |

i agree with sgray0715. The song just feels to grand in scope and uses way to much "cosmic" imagery for me to be ok with just saying its another song about a break up or a man or whatever. It has the feeling early man must have had in his "fall from grace" or "eating of the apple" or what ever anyone believes. Recounting the day and the light, but from a dim place now. "And in the dark, I can hear your heartbeat I tried to find the sound But then it stopped, and I was in the darkness, So darkness I became ...I took the stars from our eyes, and then I made a map And knew that somehow I could find my way back Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too So I stayed in the darkness with you" Those bits to me sound a lot like a Christ figure reaching out an becoming the darkness with its fallen creation. "so darkness i became" and "so i stayed in the darkness with you." just fit that idea so well. Even if its not about Love on such a grand and "cosmic" scale, i prefer this interpretation due to the immensity of the sound of the song. The full vocals, the large almost tribal drums, and the large scope of the sound, it just fits to largely for something like "i was in love with him and he broke my heart." |
