Am I the only one that found the lyrics to this song vaguely dark? When I read them for the first time, I got the definite sense that the father was abusive and that the children were hiding in terror. "Father don't, you could do the right thing..." "We were curled in sleeping torpor/We dreamed of flying up where the exhausted die." "Pinned...pancaked underneath the bed means dead" Word choices just have a darker edge to them. But it encourages me to hear people interpreting it as an innocent game of hide-and-seek...I want it to be a happy song. This is one I'd really like to ask the band about. |
