Grateful Dead – Box Of Rain Lyrics 15 years ago
to me, the box of rain is anything you want it to be. you can take it or leave it or it can even be a "ribbon for your hair". when you're weary and "broken" the box of rain will be there for you. lesh and hunter definitely wrote it as lesh's dad was passing and i believe the song was kind of about things that'll come and go.

but yeah. the box of rain will always be there. believe it if you need it.

MGMT – The Handshake Lyrics 16 years ago
So I know a lot of you have totally set your minds on thinking this song is about acid and whatnot. But here is my interpretation. It sounds a lot to me like they're talking about either being signed to a record company or some other financial deal. When the song says "The handshake's stuck on the tip of my tongue, It tastes like death but it looks like fun," i think they're talking about how the deal they made looks like trouble in the long run but for the time-being they're sealing the deal because it looks like fun to be a rock star and make all that money. They also talk about how they are leaving behind their carefree mornings and opening the doors to a totally new lifestyle as stars. MGMT convinced themselves that they want this knew lifestyle but they know that they are still unsure. They don't want to forget who they were before this stardom and they don't want the deal to turn them into something they're not. The song also has a lot to do with materialism and wanting things you don't need and becoming obsessed with image.

MGMT – 4th Dimensional Transition Lyrics 16 years ago
So one time i read this thing about dimensions and i think this song might be talking about this same idea. so basically there are three dimensions that we, humans, can interact with: the first dimension, second dimension, and third dimension. we can interact with the first and second dimension because they are lower than our own dimensions. (i think of it like versions of a certain software or processor. for example, if your computer has the 2007 version of microsoft word, it can take documents from the 2003 version of word but not the 2009 version because it can take the version that is less-advanced than itself but not the version more advanced.) So if you get what im saying so far, some people also believe that there are more dimensions living right next to us that we can't see because they are "more sophisticated" or "complex" just like the versions of microsoft word i talked about. Some people argue that we can only see these four or five or six dimensional creatures' shadows because shadows are two-dimensional and are therefore compatible with our three-dimensional world. So connecting back to the song, there is the part that goes: "If what they say is true, You are a shadow in fourth dimension." That is what reminded me of this concept of higher dimensions that we can't see. If this is true, the 4th dimensional beings can see us, just like we can see two-dimensional drawings or our own shadows but they can't see us.

its a pretty far-out idea but i think its cool and this song reminded me of it. i could be completely wrong or you might disagree but i just wanted to put it out there.

The Lovin' Spoonful – Younger Generation Lyrics 16 years ago
i think the song is about how as a kid everyone wants to be rebellious and stick it to the adults. as kids we all tell ourselves not to forget when grownups were the bad-guys: "i swore when i was small that i'd remember when i knew what's wrong with them that i was smaller than." but then when one becomes a parent, things change. john sebastian talks about the transition from kid to father and is basically saying that it's a crazy thought that his own baby boy will experiment with things: skipping school, driving, and doing drugs.
the point is to not lose your temper at all the kids for doing what you did when you were young. show respect for the younger generation because everyone was a kid at some point.
so those are just my ideas about this song. i really like it but the meaning is all there in the song so you don't need to listen to me.
