This song means so much to me. I've been following Frightened Rabbit for the last four years or so, and have seen them numerous times in concert. However, nothing prepared me for the Los Angeles show in May of 2010. After living in California for four years, I recently decided to start from scratch, reset careers and move back to my midwest hometown to teach middle school. I had just finished my Master's Degree (defended it on a Friday), moved out of my place on Saturday, and the next day, Sunday, with a loaded car, went to see Frightened Rabbit at the Henry Fonda Theater. Immediately afterwards, I would hop in my car and drive north. This concert would my very last event while living in California. When they opened the show with "Skip The Youth", I felt myself overcome with emotion. To me, this song is about all the hardships and heartache and confusion about growing up. And, as a twenty-seven year old without a career, who's constantly questioning his purpose, ability and future - this song hit me like a ton of bricks. The last five years had been such a struggle, and I was throwing it all away to pursue something I was completely unsure about. With so much on my mind, and so much uncertainty around the corner, that show was one the most cathartic experiences of my life. As I hopped in my car that night, sometime around midnight, I played this song on repeat all the way to Santa Barbara. It just felt right. And now, two months later, as I look back to my past life and embrace my new one - this song serves as a constant reminder of the hardships of life's struggles and uncertainties. For me, the most important song of the year. Thank you, Frightened Rabbit. |

Great tune - especially for a "bonus track". It's hard to think that this is a cover. Anyone else remember the mid-90's N-Trance version? Definitely way too optimistic for Midnight Organ Fight - good call to keep it off the album, an even better call to make it available. Love it! |
