i feel he's talking to death as an entity, kind of like in street spirit... i mean, it could easily be about a relationship or something like that, but it feels a lot deeper to me. just my opinion. |

i always thought it was "how the innocent are bound to the damned" probably wrong. wonderful song though, & my favorite off the album. kind of reminds me of the haze i get in after getting bad news; just going through the motions like any other citizen; just blindly carrying out tasks. |

I think this song is mostly about the bonds of family, hence being called 'blood', but the song also speaks about blood in a different way, or the kid who was "stuck on a sliver of silver", seeming to illuminate the darker side of blood. At any rate, it's an excellent song, puts you right there when you listen! : ) |

I totally agree with everyone else on the meaning of the song, but I noticed something else while watching the video, mainly just the part where the main character is hit by the taxi. I thought a lot about why the onlookers would be applauding, but it almost has a religious sort of feel to me, like the main character has finally achieved what he needed to and is now moving onto the next stage of his life... I know, pretty far-fetched, but it's a wonderful song that deserves a lot of thought. : ) |

i hear this on the first verse: i can break out a jail with the lights out so is there any point in making lost blood? could be wrong though... anyway, i think this song is basically about trying to find peace through isolation, and never really waking up to the real world around you. & though admittedly things would be pretty peaceful without paying attention to religion, war & tragedy, and becoming involved, they seem to know that they're dreaming & that you can't live that way honestly. "white flag" could ultimately stand for giving up in way also. just my take on it. ; ) |
