I agree with Adam. The song talks about being lost in slumber, and a threat to no one. Oftentimes when people suffer depression they sleep a lot, and become a pushover. Then he talks about sweet departure. He's either referencing leaving whatever place he's in, or suicide. Since again, depressed people often have thoughts of running away or of suicide. So pretty much the whole song ties into depression, and how when one is depressed they become dehumanized, since a depressed person often cares little about emotions such as love and happiness, etc etc. Yet emotions are what make us humans. |

The song is obviously about suicide (Since David talks about it before the music video starts). I think it's sung from the POV of the devil. Since in the third line the lyrics state 'She's just another lost soul about to be mine again' So the song is about David's girlfriend who took her life, and he struggled with the choice to join her. The devil was enticing David to kill himself to join her, but in order to do so he must 'Surrender it all' if he wants to be with her. So while the song is blatantly about suicide, it also talks about the deals that the Devil tries to make with people and force them into eternity binding contracts. |
