A Perfect Circle – Passive Lyrics 16 years ago
I think that is a clever idea, but check out mine too and see if it makes sense (pg 9)
P.S In my comments, some of the lyrics + my interpretations to them start to mix a little by accident, so you have to figure out how to read it properly.

MY idea is DEPRESSION. (or suicide like Atomiic said)

Okay sooo, when one is depressed one acts like one is dead. Staying in bed most of the time, not going out to visit people, barely eating, becoming uncommunicative. And usually, depression is diagnosed by a DOCTOR:
"Dead as dead can be
The doctor tells me"

"But I just can't believe him
Ever the optimistic one"
To me this sounds like he can't believe that his friend is depressed because his friend always seemed so HAPPY and didn't even hint at depression until now.

"I'm sure of your ability
To become my perfect enemy"
As most depressed people, they become a little hard to handle (either being SUPER difficult, pessimistic, always complaining about whatever that's bothering them etc.) and that is sucking the life out of him.

"i'm sure to your ability" <-- the friend being difficult etc.
'to become my perfect enemy' <-- because of his friend becoming almost a burden, and not becoming better, he starts to get annoyed, so the potential is that he thinks "My GOD, I keep TRYING to get you better, and you are not doing a THING to help yourself!" and starts to loathe him.
Perfect enemy -----------------> an enemy (because he's so damned hard to deal with) and perfect because even though that be the case, he still IS his friend. But it's a lose lose situation.

Wake up, and face me <--- these lines are him telling his friend to
Don't play dead, cause maybe shake out of it already and stop acting like it
Someday I'll walk away and say is the end of the world because maybe someday
You dissapoint me he'll STOP trying to help him get better because he
Maybe you're better off this way isn't helping himself, and he'll just say "you disappoint
me, maybe you're better off in the state you are
depressed."

Leaning over you here <---watching his friend as he sleeps, he just
Cold and catatonic envisions how his friend could have been so MUCH and done
I catch a brief reflection so much with his life
Of what you could and might have been

The ending lyrics are him trying to shake some sense into him friend already

New Buffalo – Come Back Lyrics 16 years ago
I feel like this song is about some sort of romantic relationship:
"It's time to lie
Down on the shore
Where you once cried
For more, for more"

Umm...I think maybe that in the couple, one person left (I'm thinking it's the girl because the singer is a girl):
"Come back
Come back
I need you now
Come back
Come back
I need you now"

"It's true
It's true <---obviously she was afraid of falling in love because she
I've been avoiding you acknowledges the fact that the relationship was supportive
When all you gave to me
Was so pure and so complete
The sounds that lull to sleep
The flickering of the lights <----I think those 3 lines are just some random thoughts of memory
The water so deep" that only the person who'd been in the relationship would
understand. 'the sounds that lull to sleep' maybe being when they
fell asleep to the sound of their breathing. 'the flickering lights'
remembering how the lights were a little quirky in the ceiling of a room in which they spent the day. 'the water so deep' if they went to the -OH WAIT! Okay, new idea. You know the part where they say:
'It's time to lie
Down on the shore
Where you once cried
For more, for more"
I think it's a memory of one weekend or vacation or whatever, where they went to the beach 'It's time to lie Down on the shore' 'the water so deep', had a wonderful time ;P 'Where you once cried
For more, for more", and fell asleep to the winking stars 'the flickering lights' and the lapping of the waves 'the sounds that lull to sleep'.

:D

Somehow that whole relationship ended and she or he (whichever one singing "come back") wants the other to come back because they are having a hard time and need to be loved:
"When dark as night
I saw the light <----dark as night being tough times, light being the other person who they
It shone with more loved. and "with more desire then I'd seen before' they want to be with
Desire than person again
I'd seen before
The leaves begin to fall <---time goes by...fall..seasons
I smell the air <---winter smells, crunching dewy leaves of autumn, spring flowers
And hear a voice saying <---the voice being their owns thoughts
Come back
Come back
I need you now <--- yeah.
Come back
Come back
I need you now"

ET VOILA! Le Fin! I have interpreted it! :D

Bloc Party – Pioneers Lyrics 16 years ago
Okie doke. I have no idea if someone already thought of this idea, but since I didn't want to read all the pages of peoples' theories, I decided to simply put mine out there.

I believe that this song is about who humans in general have totally screwed up the world thinking we could control everything. Scientists, discoverers, philosophers etc. all had their ideas of the ideal world and so sought to make to experiment with the world :
"If it can be broke then it can be fixed, if it can be fused then it can be split
It's all under control
If it can be lost then it can be won, if it can be touched then it can be turned
All you need is time"

With the "if it can be...etc." it's the thoughts of such humans who believe that everything is reversible and whatever they do, it will all turn out alright, "it's all under control" and "all you need is time"

NEXT!:

A sense of purpose and a sense of skill, a sense of function but a disregard
We will not be the first, we won't
You said you were going to conquer new frontiers,
Go stick your bloody head in the jaws of the beast

As the humans we are, it is in our natures to believe in a sense of everything. Everything has it's purpose, and everything has it's own way of working "A sense of purpose and a sense of skill, a sense of function". However, knowing all this, we chose to push this knowledge aside so that we can put thins to our own purposes for our OWN gain "but a disregard".
Generations before and after us will all be the same, because all humans have to same natures, so enters the lyric "We will not be the first, we won't"
The curiousity of humans drove us to say in our pride that we would conquer all territories, battle all difficulties, to gain..what? Power.More for ourselves, for our own greed, and use whatever means to satisfy our desires. Even wars and bloodshed: "You said you were going to conquer new frontiers,
Go stick your bloody head in the jaws of the beast"
(beast being whatever we felt threatened our progress. Predators like tigers or sharks that we have nearly killed off etc, Natives, plants that were carnivorous)

The part with "breath in, breath out" signifies how we have polluted the air with toxins, and maybe we should sllooooww down and take a breather before we do more damage to our humanity.

The MOST IMPORTANT part of the song, the CHORUS: "we promised the world we'd tame it,what were we hoping for?" meaning that in our desire to control everything, and bend everything to our will, we have , in fact, created chaos in our world. We have made everything so unbalanced (food chain, love etc.). "What were we hoping for?" The question we SHOULD have asked ourselves bfore we began to try and control everything.

LASTLY--> in a summary of the song, they say

"So here we are reinventing the wheel
I'm shaking hands with a hurricane
It's a colour that I can't describe,
It's a language I can't understand
Ambition, tearing out the heart of you
Carving lines into you
Dripping down the sides of you"

"so here we are reinventing the wheel" <-- technology advancing with the start of wheels which lead to bicycles, cars, transportation and many other things

"i'm shaking hands with a hurricane"<---- just as a hurricane is dangerous, so was our decision to advance thus far with all our new devices of war, communication, transportation etc.

"It's a colour that I can't describe,
It's a language I can't understand" <--- it happened so fast, we didn't have time to take everything in and analyze it for its pros and cons

"Ambition, tearing out the heart of you <---KEY WORD: AMBITION With our craving to develop, our ambitions,
Carving lines into you we have become monsters and just ACTED WITHOUT
Dripping down the sides of you" THOUGHT

With the last line "WE WILL NOT BE THE LAST" the lyrics just simply mean, 'even though you might understand this song, it's not like we will ever change anyway, because all human natures are selfish so we won't be the last, even until the end of the world.'

THAT"S WHAT I THINK! ;D

The Knife – From Off to On Lyrics 16 years ago
In my own opinion, I believe "From off to on" is about two children who live with...parents?/guardian/some person who they respect, and they are poor. This being so, they prostitute themselves:
"We want control of our bodies"
"I think I even liked it
If the feeling was mine
A little something about my body"

They may have been well-off before, but by some tragic event their family lost all their money, so that's why they always dream of the past:
"We can not wait much longer
We want happiness back "

After a long day during which they had to get customers etc. they simply want to forget everything, adn try to live as peacefully as possible without all the chaos that threatens to break them. At home there is this one person (I assume a lady who prepares their meals, or act like a mother/big sister) who they love and respect, and who they just like being with because he/she makes them feel normal again:
"When we come home, we want it quiet and calm
We want you to sing us a song
When we come home, we pull the curtains down
Making sure that the TV is on" <-----just tuning out of all the unhappiness in their lives
"When we come home, we want it quiet and calm
We want you to be around
When we come home, we pull the curtains down
Making sure that the TV is on"

This part is just one or both of the children confiding in their "authority figure". The first part tells of what the kids desire to be when their older (rich so that they never have to live like they do again) the second is...no idea, but if anyone else has one, go ahead and say it:
1st-"If you move a little closer
I'll tell you what's my aim
It's every evening on a big screen
Hosted by celebrities"
2nd-"I had a dream about deleting and killer whales
Is it the feeling of your body
Or is it the feeling of mine "

Soap, that's my little interpretation :)
