The Ursulines are a religious order. Basically, they are nuns, which explains the reference to a dress. They are well-know for providing elementary education in Quebec prior to last century. I imagine the song could be wishes (maybe a prayer) made by a nun. The first part suggests that the wishes might come from a dying/older nun as advice to a new member of the order. "Aucun homme ni aucune religion Ne viendront sous ma robe" might mean that she wishes not to be tempted by men (sexually) or by other religions (ursulines are Catholic). |
