I am almost 100 percent positive short of asking Garth himself that this song is about Lane Frost. Lane died in 1988 in Cheyenne so when it says "he promised her hed turn out" he didnt he died there. The part about "dreams in the California sand" it definately falls together with Lane most of the video clips you find of him he is at a Rodeo in California. Redding, Red Bluff, Livermore, Salinas are ones i have seen clips and photos of he mostly rodeoed on the West coast from california up to washington and a little more east. the fight though however does not add up, Lane and kelly did take a break for a bit in 87 because of lanes traveling all the time but they were back together for a little over a year until he died. but i am 100 percent sure this song is about Lane Frost |
