Lordi – It Snows in Hell Lyrics 13 years ago
Tis a curious song, probably about revenge, as the others here say. I would agree that there is some motif of vengeance, but I think that it's not against the person who killed him, but rather against someone who betrayed him. It's highly possible that the singer/narrator of the song (not Lordi himself but a character portrayal of something) was betrayed by the subject of the song and thus wants revenge: maybe the wife didn't kill the husband, but after the husband died the wife remarried? Who knows?

Though the band's interpretation of it gets me; from the video they made for it it's like Lordi's rescuing a woman accused of witchcraft. Anyone mind helping me understand that one?

Simple Plan – Untitled (How Could This Happen to Me?) Lyrics 15 years ago
So I don't know if anyone saw the video, but the video highly explains the song (at least from SP's point of view).
In the video, the lead singer is driving back home in a storm, had way too much to drink, and doesn't see an oncomming car. He subsequently smashes into the car, killing the young driver inside. Despite the girl being brought to the hospital and the personel trying to revive her, they ultimately fail. The song switches between the girl dying and her family noticing nothing. Near the end of the song, the family is quite literally thrown around and their house is busted up because of the severity of the death; someone within their life died and it (in the song's sense) tore their lives apart. All the time the lead singer is singing the song in the position that he killed the girl and has extremely high guilt for what he did.

From that perspective, the song is easily identifiable and very powerful, but the idea that it's title (Untitled) also gives credence to other horible deaths and events make it that much more powerful.

Also, I don't care how butch you are, this song WILL make you cry the first time you hear it. It's that powerful. Good song and great emotion.

Avenged Sevenfold – Scream Lyrics 15 years ago
Honestly the song can be viewed as a lot of things, but the very first time I heard it I envisioned a man with a bloodied penknife in one hand and a wicked, devious grin on his face. He had satisfied a primal lust, both figuratively and literally.
The song is a song of murder; he wanted not to just kill someone, but torture and completely ravage them, taking them in body and mind. Sort of like Cat and Mouse gone too far. It's still a rather good song, and a powerful one at that. The meaning is still difficult, but a blood hungry murderer, though simple, just makes sense to me.

Simple Plan – Generation Lyrics 15 years ago
That's pretty much the general reason for the song's being; a lot of bands and people commented that Simple Plan just doesn't play the right music or aim at the right crowd. This could be considered their response to that, in the sense that they're trying to aim for something new, a future featuring a different style that focuses on both problems and solutions of music and real life. Their generation is different than others, and so will their choices and lifestyles be.

That's how I remember hearing it anyway.

Nightwish – Crownless Lyrics 15 years ago
The Riddler is another Nightwish Song, and is also a reference to the all knowing persona that basically knows everything in life, but knows nothing because life itself is a mystery; a riddle.
Wikipedia is your friend, and I hope I remembered it right

Creature Feature – Such Horrible Things Lyrics 15 years ago
Good song, good beat, really strangely enjoyable sadistic feel. I still love
"WHEN I WAS FOURTEEN...
*Sigh* nothing much happened...
Well, there was that one time!"
makes me chuckle every time I hear it

Voltaire – When You're Evil Lyrics 15 years ago
Such a strangely cheerful tune about evil and annoyance. rather fun actually. I especially love the following lines:
It gets so lonely, being evil
What I'd do to see a smile, even for a little while
And no one loves you when you're evil...
I'm lying through my teeth
Your tears are all the company I'll need

just gives me an image of an evil guy looking sad, then he grins wickedly, laughs, smacks you upside the head and does more evil things.

Nightwish – Forever Yours Lyrics 15 years ago
I do agree with the thought that it is about someone who once loved and then lost that love, however I think it was a forced loss; the person he/she loved was forced to leave due to varying circumstances, and despite both of their efforts to try and move on (even though they'll probably never see each other again), they still feel love for each other and are unable to love another.

Nightwish – The Phantom Of The Opera Lyrics 15 years ago
I find it a great song, but I'm interested in hearing how it would sound with their new singer Annette doing the female vocals, though I've yet to find a recording of that. how bout it, who thinks that might be interesting?
Also, Marco did pretty damn good as did Tarja, but yeah the real originals were just godly

Nightwish – Bless The Child Lyrics 15 years ago
It's a good interpretation, but one thing that no one seems to have commented on; the song fades away perfectly into End of all Hope, which to me states that the two songs are connected to each other somehow, as if the story is either continuing or being told from two viewpoints. I do agree with most of the interpretations in this song here, but I think to understand it perfectly we need to consider both songs together rather than seperately.

Skillet – Kill Me Heal Me Lyrics 15 years ago
You do realize they're just doing a heavy metal outlook on Jesus being crucified on the cross, right?
Pick up the cross, pick up the nails, it's killin time= a reference to when the romans crucified Jesus and Jesus just let it happen. Their take is he did it to cleanse sins but also to give the world a thrill by letting his memory inpsire and fill their life. Regardless of what they did, they'll kill Jesus, then someone will bring him back through body or memory, only to kill him again. Kill me, Heal me, On and On.
That's the basic take of the song.
Christian Bands can be predictable imo.
Still, a good song.

Nightwish – Over the Hills and Far Away (Gary Moore cover) (feat. Tony Kakko) Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is quite easy to understand as people have shown; it's a simple song of adultery and a false crime, but it's set around the mideival times.
During these times, if a woman was found to have cheated on her husband she was literally cast out by society; the best she could hope for at that point would be becomming a streetside whore. The man in the song (who had bedded the wife) knows this and, although he wants to see her again, he keeps his mouth shut to save her some pain and make sure she's still safe and in a comforted life.
That's what I see it as anwyay. Could be wrong.

Simple Plan – What If Lyrics 15 years ago
I would have to agree that it does speak of a relationship, but I find it's more of like a long lost memory relationship;
The man in question in the song (or woman, whichever you prefer) is just starting his life, having nearing the end of some of his goals and he starts to think back on different times in his life when he had choices to make, friends to keep, friends to lose, loves gained and lost, and it all literally overwhelms him in one blow and he thinks to himself "What if it was all different... what if this changed, what if this happens, what would it be like?" He is literally (in my opinion) asking himself the general question of "What if..."
It's a beautiful song because he's reached the stage every person in life goes through; a point in your life where you consider every angle and option and think "What if this changed, what if this happened?" you literally wonder what if it was different and where would you go.

Simple Plan – Take My Hand Lyrics 15 years ago
I find that it is a generic song in a sense, but it is also amazingly unique because it adresses something that we as living people have a hard time accepting; Trust.
People have a natural aversion to other people because they are afraid of being hurt, insulted or frowned upon by society. This song shows a woman who has tried to escape that when she falls in love with a man, however there is a subliminal obviousness that she is still afraid of being judged by society. The man in the song tells her not to listen to society but rather to trust their love, to trust him. It's a beautiful and powerful romantic song, one I personally enjoy.

Nightwish – For the Heart I Once Had Lyrics 16 years ago
A beautiful song for certain, and so sad. I'm leaning towards the agreement that it is about a loss of childlike innocence, and when one person grows up they lose that innocence. A recurring theme in most Nightwish songs, however I think this one is most directed to someone who has just lost his/her innocence, whether it was from a sexual act, the viewing of a horrific crime, or even a different look at a simple day; the person in question is simply a child who lost their innocence and grew out of it, and they only wish they could get that unattainable innocence back.

Nightwish – White Night Fantasy Lyrics 16 years ago
It's a song about a child who is saved from suicide. Here's how I came to this point.
The beginning of the song shows me a small girl within a home, a dagger resting over her heart. She prepares to bring it down, but just as the song begins to use the instruments the angelic figure (which is the second voice in the song) comes in and rests a hand over the girl's hands, and tells her to come meet her at a lake in the night.
Curious, the girl agrees and at nightfall she follows the sound of the song (or the memory of it) to a simple lake. She sees the angelic creature again, who literally gives the girl a temporary paradise to escape the world's horrors.
During this time the girl becomes one with the world, nature and its creatures, learning of it and finding that there are still some things in the world worth living for. The angelic creature literally has given the girl a night of rest and peace, one night to simply decide on the world and see if it is worth living for. And whether the girl decides to live or die, either way the angel gives her the rest she wants.

Nightwish – Planet Hell Lyrics 16 years ago
I would have to agree with the general idea, however a few of my own opinions come into mind.
From my viewpoint, this literally is a song about planet hell and how the gods debate on whether they should save it or not, sort of like a conversation. They could be looking down on the world and seeing all the different forms of suffering, torture and injustice and debate whether or not they should just kill everyone and start over. Not only that, I find the song makes references to more than just one religion, as there is the view of both Greek gods and of the Christian religion (Greek being the line of the Ferryman, who was a creature in greek lore that brought damned souls across the river Styx for a fare, while Christianity is represented by the "ark" or Ark of the Covenant), and also at the simple foolishness of humans and man. It's quite a powerful song.

Nightwish – Wish I Had an Angel Lyrics 16 years ago
It could be that Mya, but my interpretation is a wedding (believe it or not) between the wrong pair. It's a REALLY strange interpretation, but here's what I have;
Two girls loved each other, however the family did not know and betrothes one of the girls to a man they think will be good for her. Unfortunately, the man can be a bit violent, and to make sure he gets his bride he makes sure the true lover of this girl is kept well away. Here's what I see

"I wish I had an angel for one moment of love, I wish I had your angel tonight."
The man wants an angle; HIS angel, in a sense. To me, it's as if he doesn't really care who it is as long as it gives undying love to him; not as a person or lover, but simply as a pet; he wants his pet angel for the "love" that he can recieve from it.

"Deep into her dying day
I took a step outside an innocent heart."
The girl knows she's marrying someone she doesn't want, and she's basically given herself up to it, somewhat forgetting her previous love with the woman she actually liked, making her literally step outside her "innocent heart".

"Prepare to hate me, fall when I may
This night will hurt you like never before."
The girl is telling her true love that they won't be able to marry, that she has no other choice in it; she tells her love that she should prepare for the worst and try to move on with her life, maybe forget her so that it doesn't hurt as much, despite the pain she knows will come.

"Old loves they die hard
Old lies they die harder."
THe girl in question is still in love with the woman, however she knows that to make her family, and probably the town she lives in, happy, she'll need to continue with this lie and marry the man.

"I wish I had an angel for one moment of love
I wish I had your angel your virgin mary undone
I'm in love with my lust
Burning angel wings to dust
I wish I had your angel tonight."
This is the man monologuing; he wants his pet angel (the girl in this case) so that he may do whatever he wishes with her, regardless of morals or decency, or even humanity; he cares only for sating his lust, and gives no thought to the pain she'll give this girl. Because of this, he will literall burn away her purity and make her his slave.

"I'm going down so frail and cruel
Drunken disgiuise changes all the rules."
This is a mix between both girls now; the second is trying to hide her sadness through a mask, however it falters entirely while the first girl is saddened and pain that she has to marry a man who will probably ruin her life. THe second girl starts taking to the bottle, and slowly (Through a "drunken disguise") sobers up and comes with a plan to save her love (in the sense that she thinks she can't give up just yet).

*Repeat the couplet* The two girls know they can't forget their love, but the first knows she has to continue her lie.

*Chorus*
The man is preparing for his wedding (his prize), and makes sure that everything goes according to plan, still thinking about how he'll have a slave of his own.

Marco's lines:
"Greatest Thrill, not to kill
But to have the prize of the night
Hypocrite
Wannabe friend
13th disciple who betrayed me for nothing!"
The man confronts the love of the girl he's about to marry, and it's revealed that this second girl and the man used to be friends. IN explanation for this wedding (or stealing of the second girl's love), he states that he just wants his thrill, not the thrill of war he may have fought in, but the thrill of having a little slave girl. The second girl, in return, calls him a liar and a hypocrite, stating that he is like a Judas, who betrayed her for his own personal gain.

"Last Dance first kiss
Your touch my bliss
Beauty always comes with dark thoughts."
It's the night of the wedding, and the girl and man that are about to be married have different thoughts going through their head; the girl thinks that this will be her last night of innocence, where she will give herself up to the lust, while the man envisions a perfect little slave who will do whatever he asks, gratifying his thoughts of lust (or his "dark thoughts").

*The moans in the song, along with the laugh*
I find this extremely important; after the last three aforementioned lines, there is the sounds of a girl moaning and then a laugh; the man imagimes even more of his perfect slave, but his thought train is cut off by laughter; the laugh of the second girl who is the true love of the girl getting married.

*Chorus*
Now it's the first girl thinking that this is a different turn of events, where she just might be saved, while the man considers it a horrific change in plans and his wants.

"I wish I had an angel"x4
This to me shows the finish; the second girl pushes the man out of the way, takes the first girl and kisses her lovingly, literally becomming "her angel". The man wanted the girl to be his little angel pet, white the second girl becomes "the angel" that the first wished for so that she could avoid this marriage and be joined with the one she truly loved.

Simply my interpretation, I could be wrong.

Nightwish – Dark Chest Of Wonders Lyrics 16 years ago
To me I see it not as Pandora's box, but rather a person's own mental will and mind; as a child they had everything in their heads free and loving, but the limited sight of adults locks that mind and brings out only what they think will help the child; anything else they find they tell the child to "Forget about it". For example:
The child dreams perhaps (or truly is living) in his/her own world when the clock strikes midnight; he flies to his own world, his dreamland of limitless possiblities. As the child grows, so does his confliction with this limitless mind. I'll explain further by describing the song in two voices.

The beginning is stated as "Once I had a dream, and this is it." The child is already an adult, reminiscing about his/her dream, the life they wanted.

Now we go to the first two chorus lines (the ones sung before Tarja's couplets in the song)
"Once there was a child's dream"
"Once there was a child's heart"
The child here in question basically already reached adulthood and is being faced with one image of his/her childhood already past, and therefore has some difficulty comming to terms with accepting it again.
Now Tarja sings:
"One night the clock struck twelve, the window opened wide."
"The age I learned to fly and took a step outside."
The child remembers hijs/her first wonderful dream, where their mind had roamed free and given them their first dreams and hopes in the world.
And again, the chorus with
"Once I knew all the tales."
"Once I wished for this Night."
The child looks back on their dreams past, and now how the dream is comming back to them; their perfect and limitless world.
Tarja With
"It's time to turn back time follow the pale moonlight."
"Faith brought me here it's time to cut the rope and fly..."
The child has their perfect dream again, their limitless and powerful world, and they decided it's time they went back to that dream to remind themselves of what they once had and what they can have once more. Like this, the child literally finds their "Dark Chest of Wonders", which was the chest their parents had locked away in the child's mind so as to prepare them for the real world, and now the child as an adult finds this chest and wants to reopen it so the can remember what it was like to be a child, to be innocent, to have life and a perfect beautiful mind.
That's what the song means to me anyway; finding your inner innocence and childlike mind again, and living within it. I find this even more emulated in the line here;
"The One in the big blue is what the world has stolen from me
This night will bring him back to me"
The child's mind was locked away by the chains of reality and family, and now the child wants to bring back their mind on this night, the night where they had their first true dream.

Nightwish – Whoever Brings the Night Lyrics 16 years ago
The song is (in my opinion) reminiscent of the Succubus. For those who don't know, a Succubus is a demonic creature that takes the shape of a woman, sometimes portrayed as a half demon or a winged demoness (and usually very violent or dark a creature). The succubus would seduce her victim, have their fun with them, and then kill the victim and take their soul.
That's basically the idea of the song; people believe in a fake love or go to something that they think is beautiful, but really they just set themselves up for sadness and failure. It can link not only to brothels or prostitutes, but even just a regular love life that never worked out; some people really do feel broken hearted or that they've lost something important when they lose love. It's quite an interesting song.
