| Mindless Self Indulgence – Prove Me Wrong Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I think the whole thing is about lust, and the fear of loving someone, or more so the fear of being hurt. He's saying he can't trust people and he want's to be proven wrong, but no one really can. Love never seems to work out for him so he just decides to have go have fun and forget about it all. Hence "why don't you come here and try to turn me on" as opposed to "prove me wrong". He has kinda given up on love but deep down he wants someone to come along and make him believe again. Just my take on it! Found it the other day and love it. It's got a different feel to most of their other tunes. The verses in particular are pretty rad. |

I love this song so much. The more I listen to it, the more I reckon it's about someone who's been in an accident or battling some kind of disease, maybe cancer, who knows. As a result they're on life support. But their chance of making it through is incredibly slim. This person obviously means a lot to their partner, who's singing about the decision they have to make - whether they'll take their partner off life support (cos there's no chance for them; they're already "dead", and only their "body remains") or continue to see their partner in such a terrible, lifeless state. (eyes vacant and stained...) The difficulty of the situation is reinforced... "in saying you loved me, made things harder at best.." but "our memories defeat us" - the memories mentioned at the beginning of the song regarding holding hands and sunsets and what not suggest the past was great but times like those won't be experienced again. You can really hear the pain and emotion in Gerard's voice and the way the song builds is amazing. At the end when he's like "but does anyone notice, there's a corpse in this bed?" it sounds as though the person on life support died - the decision wasn't for the partner to make; it was kinda made for him. I honestly could be completely wrong, obviously there are many valid interpretations of this song.. and MCR lyrics tend to be really ambiguous - but incredibly moving... The whole thing could even be about some crazy person with a gun who goes mental and kills his partner for some unknown reason. But the whole "does anything matter if you're already dead" line makes me think whoever he's talking about is merely alive... Basically a vegetable who can't do or think for themselves anymore. Just my take on it. x |

| songs mean something different to everyone... so theres no point in fighting over whos right and whos wrong. i think the way this song was written is very smart and i agree with what most people have said here. however i think the backwards version is weird and i dont believe it says all those things. i think its just a play on words. ive listened to it a few times and i cant work out how it says all that stuff about rape and everything. it just sounds like someone mumbling and saying random words. | |
