Sonata Arctica – My Land Lyrics 10 years ago
Its about losing your world. I mean, when your life all of a sudden changes, for the bad.
You feel so alone, and theres people who always be against you.
But you must rise against the odds, and get back what was yours: your life.

In the song, there is only one narrator: a person (male or female doesnt matter, but lets just call it a he).
The song is about this person who just lost "his life". It changed, it wasnt what he was used to, and it wasnt good. He is feeling pain from this change.
But we see another voice from the same person: he is trying to get himself back up. "I am here to prove you wrong
I'm accused of something I live for". And claim back his life. The life he wants, not what the others want.

"Are you man enough, carry the load all alone
When other have your own"
This is basically a rhetorical question. No one is "man enough" to carry all this pain, to be OK with being totally alone, with his life being torn away by others.

The Cure – Other Voices Lyrics 10 years ago
It could be of an homosexual couple in this modern but intolerant world.. Lets check the lyrics:

"Whisper your name in an empty room
You brush past my skin
As soft as fur
Taking hold"
Both are expressing their love, as any couple would do. With a bit of lust, too.

"I taste your scent
Distant noises
Other voices
Pounding in my broken head"
But they somehow know they shouldnt be doing this. Think about the family. What would be your parents thinking. They would never accept a gay son. And also society. Society will never accept this gay couple. ¿Should we continue this relationship?

"Commit the sin
Commit yourself
And all the other voices said
Change your mind
You're always wrong"
Do it anyways. You know you want to be with him. It may be a sin, but heck just do it, even if it may mean death, discrimination, etc. Its about feeling good with yourself.
But the voices are still there: family, friends, society. Homosexuality is wrong. You are wrong. Change your mind. Stop doing that.

"Come around at Christmas
I really have to see you
Smile at me slyly
Another festive compromise"
They try to live their lives anyways. Just like any other person would do. Maybe even hiding their love, and who knows, maybe even separated so no one can guess they are in love.

"But I live with desertion
And eight million people
Distant noises
Other voices"
People say this world is getting better, that people is accepting anyone and anything. That everyone is happy.
But thats a lie. A blatant lie. Not only this couple feels lonely. A lot of people do. We got a lot of communication tools, but yet we live and feel alone.
And those voices, those distant voices, are trying to bring up the truth, and try to make people see whats wrong with our tolerance and our solidarity.

"Pulsing in my swinging arms
Caress the sound
So many dead
And all the other voices said"
The voices are still there even when you are happy with your (gay) couple. (Swinging arms could mean the way you swing your arms when are happy walking in the street).
Caress the sound? You cant really do that when some people arent truly themselves. When they pretend to be another person to get a place in society. The "dead" is that guy that practically killed himself for society, instead of being true to himself. You know whta most people say: dont live for the others, live for you. But how is that possible, if society doesnt let us?

"Change your mind
You're always wrong"
Some people, or maybe a lot of people will always think you are wrong.
Sadly, only a few discover that actually they were wrong.

Personally, this song really touches me.
Feeling alone is horrible. But the true way to get out of there is staying true to yourself. Be who you are. Dont listen to those voices.

Amazing.
This is what I thought about the song too!

Being gay must be extremely harsh.
RIP Freddie. You finally broke free.

The Cranberries – Dreams Lyrics 10 years ago
I think it is about a man/woman (lets call him/her A) that fell in love (with person B), but feels and it wont work. Hence the part:
"Then I open up and see
The person falling here is me"

The song revolves around the thoughts of A about how he/she dreams about love and how it is in reality.

Then A confesses to B, and it doesnt turn bad, but not good neither. B accepted A's feelings but said no.
"A totally amazing mind,
so understanding and so kind;
You're everything to me." Here, A, instead of getting rid of his/her feelings for B, they grow stronger, seeing how kind was B when rejecting.
Afterall, A keeps thinking about B, in his/her dreams.

I think the whole point of this song is that love does not always turn out how we wanted, and a broken heart isnt a small thing: its painful. But somehow, dreams do always back up. We can always rely on dreams. And with them we can change our life. "All my life. Is changing every day. In every possible way"

An amazing song. Probably my favorite The Cranberries song.
