Does anyone else see the connection between this and Edgar Allen Poe's "Annabel Lee"? Poe describes the death of a lover, near the ocean, and the jealously of the "winged seraphs". I think it pays more homage rather than the same meaning. |

The Corporate Head who began the album in Ants is described perfectly by "is a gunslinger": the man has worked with his face in the books yet he has is not content with life. Like the Man in "Ear to Ear", the Corporate Head is an empty tree that finally concludes his life, as mentioned in the final stanza: "The pressure, fleeting and pounding I feel the trigger give " The most interesting point is how "For A dream..." states: "Extra! Extra...A corporate head's been murdered!" Which is ironically true: who could possibly imagine the big, wealthy CEO of a company committing suicide? He has money, fame, a world beneath him: what more could he want? -> This proves exactly what Forgive Durden's album is about :D The artwork also confirms the suicide, with the corporate head sitting in a darkened room that is tinted with a dark red. |

Also, there is the reference to necks again: She's sick of breaking necks In the parable of the sower, women all have 'thin necks'; In the Tango de... the man having the one night stand seeks to bite into the neck. Interesting :D |

This is perhaps the most significant conclusion to the "storyline", per se, in that the two characters learn to live with Wonderland ("Wonderland is now our home"). I think Forgive Durden realizes that we cannot escape our trapped world, as the entire album expresses, but instead, we must live and cope with it. ------------- zoobe_40 and salmarnirecho pretty much got it! The artwork shows the two character finally leaving Wonderland: "The sun will peek into our windows... Walls naked, our closets stripped" They will take their belongings and pictures (closets/walls) and find the new world; finally escaping past the boundaries talked about in all the other songs. ***What's important: they mention the sun a lot (When dawn arrives/The sun will peek...) and if we look at Cue the Sun, we interpret it as these two characters being 'saved'. They will escape the wrath of the Sun/god/God and inherit a new home: another Wonderland. ^^ This idea of "It's all a fragment of a whole" rings Modernism where the world is viewed as a fragment: and idea the rings true to the album's theme. Like the character in "The Great Affair", it is still the same where ever they are (the endless potential of pain). |

The finale to the concept album: yes, God is narrating and he plans to correct the mess we have made of this world ("You've wasted this gift/On the beauty and science") Like in the Parable of the Sower, the World will 'reawaken' by the blinding of the light -> which could be more or less religious, or as ForgiveNykky suggested, literally global warming. What's interesting is the line: It ends with a loose strand And a curious hand And the long metaphor that follows: so it makes God/god seem not intent on destroying the world, but rather, seeking to recreate. **I use to see this album as depressing and not hope worthy, but the previous song (I've got a witch...) makes me think of redemption -- If not even a type of earthly heaven (still full of problems I mean). So while the world will be destroyed, there is hope within love and true living. MOST. AMAZING. ALBUM. EVER. (cough-next to the Weak's End by Emery - cough) |

| Forgive Durden – The Great Affair Is To Move Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I feel like this song is reminiscent of the "I've got a Witch..." No matter how far we go There's no escaping the glow We'll take our seats at the throne Wonderland is now our home Despite escaping past the city of Wonderland, the 'newborn' is exploring the vast world - which is exactly the same as Wonderland. Like the baby, who shits like all other babies, the world breeds pain ("would you believe the gall/the universe so proudly breeds?"). So not so much Pain, I think, but world in general. Artwork: It's just a flat plane, like a map, that has an erected city in the middle, presumeably wonderland. |

Okay so jamesgc, Rosea, and kylegoestohollywood and pretty much everyone (except the vampire stuff) calls it: The song is about a male character who is slaughtering the innocence of a girl; it is indeed a one-night stand, but he feels alone in knowing that he never truly loves. Again, this is another theme common in Wonderland (Ants: "An easy Fuck") And the "I have got centuries/Of teachers before me" and "big leagues" only serves to show how this guy has done this quite a lot. The artwork: it is rather interesting as it shows a black male at night facing towards the picture, as if he was on top of the girl (sexually of course). What's interesting is the next picture for "A dead person..." is the main female character, facing the opposite in the morning. |

zoobe_40 gets it again! The song is the main character's awakening: this world has fallen so far, it is simply inconceivable. Everything in the 4th stanza expresses that: There are drugs for anything. Boys are raised to die in war. Everything seems so backwards and wrong, that the drunken singing of "It's only a fabrication" really shows how screwed up things are. Art: the inside cover shows the main male character looking around on a street of identical green people |

Oops: Art: just shows a man facing another shadow at a office meeting table, with a chart to his right (aka a board meeting). |

"lucid to elusive" kinda of got it as did "is a gunslinger": The scene presented is the main characters (the male and the female) falling into true love: "if morning never brings salvation...leave me and save yourself". This is the first instance of thinking of someone else; everyone else in Wonderland does everything for their own greedy, personal needs. Both of them are seeking to escape this Wonderland ("And for a moment we're alone/And we both know that we're trapped"); a theme prevalent in "A dead person..." and "The Great Affair ...". However what is important is the "Extra! Extra!": This is the result of "Harry Frazee". The Corporate head who started the album commits suicide. And I'll post what I said before :D [Who could possibly imagine the big, wealthy CEO of a company committing suicide? He has money, fame, a world beneath him: what more could he want?] Hence the news saying he was killed And like most songs of Forgive Durden, it is indeed a reference to a move: Newsies |

| Forgive Durden – A Dead Person Breathed On Me! Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
demolitionxlover I think you covered it. The song "For a Dreamer..." expresses this idea even more of escaping and the next song (The Great Affair) is, not coincidentally, about escaping past the bounds of Wonderland. The artwork shows the picture of the female character the male character loves, so this could be the deciding point in his life: he wants to leave, but cannot. This world is a mess, but there is a shining ray of hope. |

**Edit** I'm headed straight for the top. The top. The Dirt. Not (I'm headed straight for the door) -------- Which makes a little more sense, because this man who works all day is empty and he is 'growing' to the ground - in other words, he isn't truly growing. kylegoestohollywood pretty much nails it! In terms of the concept album, I believe at most this is just one of the many characters encompassing Wonderland. |

So I recently bought the album and I'm going through reading the comments and clarifying! :) Seewa nailed it perfectly! But to add to the story, this is the introduction of the '2nd main character', which is outlined in art pamphlet. The picture shows a leg stepping out of a taxi, with the door smashing a boy on the other-side (similar to that in the music video). Later, the girl is revealed to be the main character that falls in love with the boy on the ground, the one who wakes up in Parable of the Sower. |

| Forgive Durden – Ants Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
zoobe_40 and Rosea pretty much summed it up: The beginning of the concept album is this Corporate Head overlooking all his 'ants': the common man of the world. From high above, humans look like busy ants, scurrying around - never truly talking to one another; all to get the job done. We seek to please those with power (the 'queen ant') to get the things we want (the tan, the fuck, the promotion). The 3rd stanza voices the questioning of 'if the queen cannot save us, will all our material goods?' Interestingly, as an introduction, the song foreshadows the Corporate Head's death (Comes stomping down on you at once/Like a bullet to the brain. -> See Harry Frazee and For a Dreamer). And obviously there is some pretty awesome ant/human analogies throughout this song ('carry 10 their weight'); Art: I'm thinking about scanning the picture, but the inside pamphlet includes a picture of a silhouette on top of a building with more shadows climbing up like ants. |

That's actually really helpful. I kinda thought this, but yeah, that's a very good way of putting it - which I think is more true than montyg12345's view; since most songs are indeed religious in some aspect. |
