| Gorillaz – To Binge Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I agree with you, especially the part when he says "Just don't know if I can roll into the sea again, just don't know if I can do it all again, she said, 'it's true.'" And she talks about how he's caught into it again. And yeah I never got the "roll" until you said it, but I knew it was said over and over again in the song. I think that she can't feel it anymore because she's really in love with him, and he only returns the feeling when they roll. | |

| I think he's just afraid of falling in love, but then he realizes that there's nobody else he would rather be with and he'll take the chance. | |
| Mumford & Sons – Liar Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I had the same experience. For the majority of an 8 month relationship, me and an ex boyfriend were breaking up and getting back together. He put a huge amount of stress onto me. He cheated on me with a girl I knew as a childhood best friend, and at the same time kept his sexuality to himself. I still don't know what he classifies himself as, but I know he went behind my back about it and had many men that he talked to. The part that hurt the most, is he'd get under my skin by telling me that he loved me so very much and made me out to be the bad guy for trying to break it off. So when I hear "Please, don't cry, you liar", I get shivers down my spine. I loved him with all that I had, but at the same time I felt like I didn't know him at all. Also, I relate to "And though there's too many words left unsaid, you say you have spoken." At the end of our relationship, I had no chance to get closure or to know what he kept from me. I still, to this day, have no idea what was the truth and what was a lie. |

I'm really the first to comment on this song? I love it. I believe it's about being confused of what is real and what isn't. I keep thinking it's about religion, though I'm not sure. Whose to really know? But it seems that way for me. It's about losing who you are and what causes you to be that way. |

| Mumford & Sons – After the Storm Lyrics | 15 years ago |

And there will come a time, you'll see, with no more tears. And love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears. Probably my favorite lyrics. =) It's always something I struggled with; trusting someone to not break my heart. I am paranoid when it comes to that. |

| Sting – Englishman In New York Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Actually, if he wasn't gay, there would have never been a song about him. Being gay is what made Quentin Crisp so eccentric and different in society, and what made him a man because he had to face the distaste that people felt for him. This is why it says, "It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile." By the way, Quentin Crisp loved America...He felt comfortable in the "brash" society. My personal favorite quote of Crisp's is, "The very purpose of existence is to reconcile the glowing opinion we hold of ourselves with the appalling things that other people think about us." Even in the music video, Sting is dressed up as Crisp! http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/ea/Quentincrisp1.jpg So, it isn't to say that being an Englishmen made him all the more polite or have manners, it's actually to say that in Britain he was INSULTED for his sexuality, and THIS is what gave him manners. If you read the lyrics after reading this, you might understand it a bit more. It is definitely not that hard to understand. |

| Sting – Englishman In New York Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Oh, I am so happy people knew that this was about Quentin Crisp. He was literally an illegal alien, literally an Englishman in New York, and he was gay, and very eccentric. Although he was quoted saying pretty offensive things about gay people that "homosexuality is a horrible disease." But I suppose that was just his time. Still, this song and Crisp himself inspires me to be myself. =) | |

| Panda Bear – Take Pills Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This song is so admirable. For me, it just says "We just need each other, we don't need medications." Really quite simple. Which it might seem like a "light issue" at first look, but it really isn't. A lot of people are being wrongfully prescribed medications they don't need for simple things like depression and anxiety, myself included. Another person who takes them is my father, which we're both on the same medication, just a different dosage...I was actually prescribed more! Well, what I'm taking is an SSRI and even though, scientifically proven, the drug helps, obviously...I don't believe it to be the ONLY factor. Once you get the idea in your head that medications will work, you usually do feel quite better anyway...It's a psychological thing as well...But, anyways, I've always wanted to ween myself off of it, yet it's pretty difficult...It has horrible side effects. But honestly, I don't think anyone who takes pills truly wants to take pills anymore... | |

I wish I had a voice similar to Stevie Nicks. =) But I love that she was so unique and stood her ground. I love how she says "bitch." =) |

| City and Colour – I Don't Need To Know Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I really enjoy this song for it's positive take on the absence of religion. It's not just saying he doesn't believe in God, it's saying he doesn't find the need to. "I don't know to know why the ocean's blue or the flowers grow." It's pretty obvious what we is trying to say, and the upbeat music is definitely a contributor to the meaning. =) He doesn't feel the need to have some higher power explain the beauty of the world. Also, he knows that believing in God won't save him from misery and problems...He'll still be faced with life. While even there's a negative verse, it says "it's something I'm learning to embrace." These are really words I live by...He is embracing the misery and pain that he's given, he doesn't feel the need to pray to make it go away, he's just found a way to live with it. =) I adore this song.<3 | |

| Nick Jonas & The Administration – Who I Am Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I don't usually like the music, but this song touched me. =) It's really sweet. I think it would be hard to live with all the fame society brings to him and his brothers. I'm glad he ventured out on his own a bit, because I would have to say he is the most talented out of the group, giving that he has done so much more before the group as well. It's nice to see he has something strong to stand for other than just being famous. He's actually in love with music, and with that he does what he can do to inspire people. It's a good song because everybody wants someone to love them the way they are, and the "someone to need me." Well, I believe everyone wants to feel wanted and needed, not to mention the fact I suppose Nick could be a hopeless romantic. That would definitely be hard to do with all the crazed fans trying to get his attention. I think this is great, though, it shows you how sensitive of a person he really can be. I hope that, even though he has so many crazed fans, he finds someone to make him happy, and love him for who he is. =) Everyone deserves that. | |
| Death Cab for Cutie – Talking Bird Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Every song is Art, and Art is always interpretated differently. Nobody knows what he meant by the song, and if you really want to know, look for an interview and see if it is on there. I personally don't mind knowing what it was for him, because an artist like this writes a song usually as a metaphor for themselves, well knowing not everyone will understand it. In other words, he would be happy knowing anybody could relate to his song in any way. Of course, this is just my opinion. So this can be constructed by anyone who reads. As for me, this song smybolizes my personality. It's as if, I am the bird but I am also the narrator. I take it as a conflict with myself. The last lines I take as a promise. If I stay true to myself, I will have what I please, but I am also afraid to go for it for fear I will get hurt. It's as if, this bird doesn't know that now it's in a cage, if it really wishes to be set free...Maybe this bird has started to be comfortable with life in a cage. However, when I first started listening to the song, I was still the narrator and my boyfriend (now ex boyfriend) was the bird. His father committed suicide two weeks into our relationship and we hadn't known each other well before hand. Some might say the situation was odd, but it never terrified me. I acted as any girlfriend would, whether we were together for a short amount of time or a long amount of time. I went over the night it had happened, and so did my mother - even though she didn't know the family and had never met his father. I wanted to act as a pillow, comforting and soothing...Forms to the situation, breaks your fall, etc. It was terribly difficult for me, however. "Oh, my talking bird, though your feathers are tattered and furled, I'll love you all your days, 'til your breath leaves your delicate frame." This did not neccesarily symbolize love, but this was the line that spoke the most to me at this point in time. His feathers were tattered and furled because he was so broken and lost without his father, and with what his father had done. I would take care of him, no matter what would happen or given the circumstances. "It's hard to see your way out, when you live in a house in a house 'cause you don't realize the windows were open the whole time." This verse spoke to me as well, because he wasn't sure what to do with our relationship and whether or not to stay or leave...However, the windows were open, so if he chose to leave, I would have let him go. It did end that way, too. He broke it off with me, I guess I could have reminded him of his father's death. But I set him free, even though the last line says "it's all here for you, as long as you don't fly away." Well, when he flew away, I never spoke to him, so I wasn't there anymore. Either way, whatever the song means to you (after all this site is called SongMeanings), feel free to share. It's beautiful, to me, how songs can be interpreted differently. I think this one, however, is open for great discussiones, verses some of them others that are on this site. =) I also think it's a very beautiful song, perfectly constructed. The lyrics, and the sound of his voice together, they really touch your heart deep. So I believe, it's really supposed to get to you and symbolize whatever you want it to symbolize. I think he would be pleased with the comments left on here. =) |
