Oh, I don't think that at all. I think he is just being humble and at the same time proclaiming how fantastic his father was in his own mind. I know I feel that way about my father. Maybe it's because he passed away long ago, but he was a special person and I doubt I could ever match him as a father, even though I have tried. Dan just has a way of saying so much in so few words...the mark of a true poet. |

Hey Loner...I think the reason that it is so good is that it reminds all of us about some sad things that happened a while a go. We are just gluttons for punishment. |

Dan Fogelberg was a poet as much as a musician. His songs were crafted so well--probably better than just about any artist. I have listened to this song so many times because its a sad reminder of someone in my past, and I think most people have a similar experience. I'm going to miss good ol' Dan. I was really down when I heard that he passed away. RIP. |

I agree that this line has the most meaning. To me, it represents that his elation from seeing his ex-lover (snow) has become harsh reality that they are still apart and probably always will be (rain). |

| Bob Schneider – God is My Friend Lyrics

I have heard Bob in concert go on about god. He comments about how god throws us on this earth, with competing religions that are all sure about their own veracity. God gives us no direct instruction and instead let's us try to filter the outrageous claims of pastors/rabbis/mullahs/Buddhas/scammers, etc. and wrestle with the decision. Of course, if we are wrong, it could mean eternal damnation in ever-lasting hellfire. Oh, and, by the way, god loves us.
I had to laugh at that, since the absurdity of it all has occurred to my pagan mind several times. I think Bob is too intelligent to actually believe in a classical god, as described by the religions of the earth. His god is probably just nature, or science. |

| Bob Schneider – 40 Dogs (Like Romeo & Juliet) Lyrics

Nope...not that. Straight from Bob's mouth...40 dogs refers to 40oz bottles of Malt Liquor that he would drink after work. And for him, that went very well with cigarettes, as most cigarette smokers would confirm.
The part that I have wondered about is "make a flag ought to burn a few make a flag ought to burn a few". I originally thought he said make a fag (roll-your-own cigarette...weed or tobacco), but this site says flag. I'm not sure what it really is or what it means if he really is saying flag. |
