| As with many of their songs... I have no idea. I love the James Taylor reference at the end "And you know where ever I am" James Taylor - You've Got A Friend | |

Uhh to the previous post... I disagree with those lyrics. But anyway, I get that the song is about fame and his friends and all I just don't get why they would be asking HIM to slow down when he is talking about how they left, got popular, other bands ect. ?? Side Note: When I first heard this song I burst out laughing when he sang "Your ex-lover is not dead." |

| Love it. Makes me feel so calm when I play it on guitar or listen to it falling asleep. | |

Before I even knew of Broken Social Scene I started reading a book. I ended up not finishing. Years later, and avid listener of the band, I finished the book. Only read the authors name after finishing (Ibi Kaslik) and thought "Weird I wonder how many Ibi's are out there?" Turns out this Ibi is the same Ibi he's singing about. Talk about a freaky coincidence! |

I'm sure it's a reference to Emily Haines. Would be odd if it wasn't... Ha I love how a lot of BSS songs have references to their whole little (actually quite big) group. I love how Keven sings Emily. |

"Baby, don't worry Because now I've got your back And every time you feel like crying I'm gonna try to make you laugh And if I can't, if it just hurts too bad Then we'll wait for it to pass And I will keep you company Through those days so long and black" This is all I have ever wanted to hear from a person. Song is bittersweet. |

I knew every word to this song by age 10, even the fast part. I had no idea what I was singing about. As I got older and realized what it's about and would feel a little angry with what he's singing, like he's tricked me! But that is exactly what makes it so genius, so true, so sad. It's so ironic to sing along with that beautiful voice yet know you are singing about a song that is telling you "this song is about how a song can mean nothing yet you still fall for it" The peter pan reference - it truly is my favorite line just because of the way he sounds so passionate when he sings it. It probably really doesn't mean anything. Yes, no matter how much peter loved wendy the hook is what made him not want to grow BUT it's nothing to do with the song, it's just something thrown in there "to confuse the issue." Still quite a lovely line in my opinion. |
