the only explaination i hav for janis joplin being included is she was a blues singer that don mclean knew and admired the part in the chorus where he says 'bye bye miss american pie' is refering to the plane buddy holly was in when it crashed. the 'drove my chevee to the levee' bit is about a bar called the levee in new york where he used to go to. i think the lyrics to the second to last line of the chorus i think is actually 'them good old boys were drinking whisky in rye' not and rye because rye is a district of new york where don mclean either lived or had been. i dont think rye is a drink anyway, its a crop i dont know bowt the girl dancind in the gym is. sorry. the person on the stage that makes his so angry is mick jagger. i think the 'devils music' could be a reference to buddy holly and mick jagger ruining rock n roll |

yh lennon was left wing in his politics as you can hear in the beatles music. it must be lennon and not lenin (the russian leader after the bolshevik revolution of 1917) as the next line is about the quartet which is the beatles. now that has alot to do with music Hydra2. the line 'i cant remember if i cried...widowed bride' is still about buddy holly and his wife. there is no reference to the assassination of JFK in the whole song. if you think the reference to JFK is in the line 'the farther, son and the holy ghost' than i want some good reasons |
