| Sole – Selling Live Water Lyrics | 13 years ago |

There is definitely some political points in this song, but with everything Sole does there is a very strong undertone of how livid he is about life. It's not just about America, War, Muslims or Christians - it's about the expansion of frivolous thoughts into all of the world. "It's so easy being honest it feels like I'm stealing at times." "Walking through crowds awake, and you can't tell who's laughing at you Or trying to be the new best friend of the hour, so you drink more" Those are some pretty strong statements about his disposition towards the banality of people, and the greediness that comes from people who offer their kindness in a subconscious effort to fix themselves and treat themselves. |

"and when alone with death for the first time, but realize it was there all along." there isn't a better way to word the realization of just how easy it is to die. |

| I'd like to supplement this by furthering the extent of that euphemism. By saying that she is his map and not his lover, she's explaining to him that she is only an experience to be used to find someone he can really love. As he is approached by someone who is convinced they love him, he is suddenly horrified to find that he understands now, and has to explain to this woman that he's not the one for her. | |
| Chromeo – Don't Turn The Lights On Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| It's about having lost someone, and the loneliness that brings. Either through death or other means, but I have a strong feeling it's the first. The chorus is just a clever way of saying he wants to be able to see that person when he closes his eyes. | |
| Rosie Thomas – 2 Dollar Shoes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| It's a short and sweet song. My interpretation is that the first part of the song is her loving a boyfriend, perhaps even a husband. But the second part is about loving a child, and hoping that they never grow away from you like so many do. | |
| Pearl Jam – Gone Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| It's about feeling trapped. The monotony of life, The American Dream, routine. Seeing that everything around you just doesn't hold any meaning anymore, and needing to escape. Being more comfortable moving, on the move, in a different place. Anything but the life that is being lived. Because, to this person, that isn't living. If nothing is everything, then they'll have it all. Meaning they'd rather have nothing to be content. | |

I think this song has many different layers of meaning to it. In order to properly convey what I believe the meaning to be (that is, in my own person opinion) it requires a breakdown of the lyrics. The beginning is fairly straightforward. Someone else pointed out something about superstition, and for the most part that is correct. Amulets and charms are generally indication of superstition, in this case, small items that hold some meaning to her - hopes that they will have an effect on the outcome of some situation. The part about false alarms is confusing, most likely it ties back into lyrics further into the song about being human. We all have expectations, distrusting nature. False alarms is a good way of putting it. The chorus is purely beautiful. She dances to make the rain come, I.E. she acts a certain way to get what she needs. She smiles to keep everything from falling apart. She takes what she can get as far as love goes, and uses it to keep herself going by telling her that love is the real deal. The second part of the song is extremely straightforward, with the exception of the last part. She says she hopes they won't be forgotten, but she already has a hard time staying focused on their needs. "What was your question?" And the very last part of the bulk of the song reflects that nothing physical, or superstitious, can correct human nature. Our tendencies of selfishness and illusion ruin a beautiful thing, the only thing that can keep people together for the purpose of this song. Love. Then ending chorus, I imagine, is her reflection of the past as she is now alone. Scraping up what love she can find in the rest of the world. It might be difficult to handle! But I imagine she doesn't mean just one person. If any of her other songs are an indication (with slight parody aside) she is a fickle lover. |
