I don't think he's just saying "cry me a river." Saying "when your tears dry..." shows that grieving is necessary. He doesn't try to minimize the significance of the situation or the pain, but instead reminds someone that after all the pain there is still hope. I heard this song on Last.fm, and I've been listening to quite a bit of Carbon Leaf since then. His voice, the rhyme, and the overall sound of the song are great, not to mention the message. |

A lot of people have been saying it's about how her heart hasn't been ripped out like his had, because she's having no problem just being friends but he is. I agree with that interpretation, but I could also see it saying that she hasn't been stabbed in the back like he was. Not that it matters a whole lot, but that's how I see it. It's at the point in the song where it's transitioning to being sad and remorseful to being angry about her "lies." Because he's angry about her lying, I could potentially see it as a reference to being stabbed in the back. Broken heart works, too. |
