It's about the band i think, they put this record out much more independant than the others and kind of felt it was starting again, rejuvinating the band. All the work they put in to their career, seeing lesser bands with much success etc. Shame they're gone now. |

I'm surprised how much they've matured in the last few years. I have an interview with Billie Joe from 95 saying they were offered to do a Simpsons episode but he refused, saying that he would never do something like that and that he would'leave that to Aerosmith'.

In an interview he was asked if the song is about suicide and he refused to discuss it, the only time i ever heard him do that, in later interviews he stated suicide is a serious subject that he isn't comfortable discussing in an interview due to the young fans Green Day are getting. |

I think it's a song about the trappings of fame. Billie Joe admits to being a depressive and constantly struggling with his identity in rock n roll. Perhaps he is saying he thought he was searching for something and as a band they achieved a lot but all they really needed was the music. The band were'nt getting on well during this period and i think the lesson learned lines and telling the difference between thieves and crooks is all about the struggle to stay true to the music and bollocks to the rest that goes along with it. |

Wow plenty of different opinions. Green Day were never banned from Gilman, in fact they played there unnanounced in 1999 and they said some people hung out and dug it while others left. In 1995 Billie said he saw the grafitti but carried on going. He ran into an old friend there and the first thing his old mate said was 'Wow, what the fuck are YOU doing here?' Like he was a different person or something. Fuck Gilman and fuck Maximumrocknroll. |
