No Devotion – Addition Lyrics | 8 years ago |
Lyrically and musically this sounds like it would have been right at home on Thursday's No Devolucion album (and I mean that as a compliment). My interpretation is that Geoff is chronicling the events (good, bad, and otherwise) and relationships in his adult life. |
The Hotelier – In Framing Lyrics | 8 years ago |
@[HeBrokeAString:7414] I think the entire album is about the same two people and their relationship. I find the following lines to be heartbreakingly beautiful: I held my breath in the ER I swayed as I stood. I've been there, and I've done the same thing. |
The Hotelier – Dendron Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I agree with you, eric, this one hits pretty damn hard. The entire album comes crashing down with this one tune. Every high, every low, every feeling culminates in a crescendo that is both life affirming and heartbreaking at the same time. Wake me up Pictures of you smiling in times when I just couldn't be around Hold me up Count my rings to see how many winters I've been stuck here underground Swore I would not burn out Digging through the memories that made you feel alive when you were young You were right to doubt Broken since foundations in the structures you were building came undone. --- We had plans. We were going to be something/go somewhere. We wouldn't be like them. Part of your charm was the way you would push me from all of the traps that I just couldn't see. Figures the one that was there to have tripped you up Would be the one that was set there by me. --- I turned out to be my own worst enemy. |
The Hotelier – Your Deep Rest Lyrics | 9 years ago |
The song's definitely about someone who commits suicide. It's interesting to note how the singer didn't recognize the signs (giving away possessions, etc) and also didn't recognize the shell/body. One of the strongest tracks on the album. Nice contrast between the upbeat tempo and darker, more serious subject. |
Thursday – Cross Out The Eyes Lyrics | 10 years ago |
... yours always" and an envelope marked with your new address. That is, to me, one of the most heartbreaking lyrics I've ever heard. Someone moving on (literally and figuratively), and someone clinging to what once was. |
Thursday – Ian Curtis Lyrics | 10 years ago |
"24 Hours" - Joy Division song title "This is the way. Step inside." - partial lyrics from Joy Division's "Atrocity Exhibition" There's an element of repetition, too. Geoff and another person listening to Ian's music, and him (Ian) killing himself over and over. Maybe Geoff is comparing Ian's mistakes to his own (2nd and 3rd lines). He (Geoff) knows better, but can't stop repeating ("All these thoughts keep leading back"). |
The Get Up Kids – Let the Reigns Go Loose Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Could it be: Sick fits FOR MY former home |
Thursday – Ian Curtis Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Wow, talk about foreshadowing other songs/lyrics... "Paper scraps" - I Am The Killer "5 o'clock" - For The Workplace, Drowning ("9 to 5!") |
Joy Division – Ceremony Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Peter Hook (& The Light) closed the (2011) Denver show with this one. It was amazing. As far as the lyrics go, the speaker's been through this a million times, but he's convinced himself that this time will be "the one." |
Thursday – Open Quotes Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Reminds me of a follow-on to Friends In The Armed Forces. |
Thursday – A Darker Forest Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Reminds me so much of The Cure's "A Forrest." |
Thursday – Turnpike Divides Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Is it freezing in your bed? Because I caught a deep chill. This made me think of Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart. Holy Cross has got a headstone all picked out for me And my only job is to walk around until I fall down at it's feet. Simply brilliant. Your fate is sealed, and there's nothing you can do about it. |
Rise Against – Help Is On The Way Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I always though it was: Right here! Right now! Either way, a lot of broken promises made to a lot of people. A wildfire breaks out in the Hollywood Hills and there's no shortage of responders. Poor folks in New Orleans, however, basically get ignored. |
Sex Pistols – Pretty Vacant Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Matlock said that it was inspired by an ABBA song. |
Public Image Ltd – Death Disco Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I recall reading that Lydon wrote it for/about his dying mother. My father passed away recently, and this one really connects with me. |
Public Image Ltd – Public Image Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Part of it is definitely a rant against the fashion punks, but it's also directed at Malcolm McLaren who claimed to have "invented" Johnny Rotten, etc. |
