I believe this song is somehow connected to the story of King Arthur. The silver horn, the marching through snow with banners, and even a quote directly from Lancelot, "I'll keep you warm." |

This is one of the most mind bendingly beautiful songs I've ever heard. I'm a musician and to be honest...I haven't been truly impressed with a band in a long time. Actually...forget impressed...MGMT absolutely blows me away. I have absolutely no reservations in saying that they are true musical geniuses. The fact that they wrote this album at such a young age (early 20s) is even more baffling.
The very end of Future Reflections is the high point of the album for me. It's so genuine and real and truly accomplishes what music was meant to accomplish. It makes you feel. MGMT is a testament to how incredibly and immeasurably powerful music can be. It transcends all other forms of communication. |

A lot of people on this site seem to not be looking deep enough. This song is about the German invasion of Begium on the 28th of May, 1940. It's the story of a man who's life has been shattered by World War II. His love and his country are war torn. There isn't much left. The Germans have the city surrounded (he doesn't even need proof...their presence is obvious), and he's pondering what there is to even win or lose at this point. These are the "pieces" he's referring to. The Dragon's Teeth were what they called the anti-tank blockades used to slow the progression of German tanks on the Siegfried Line (a battle front between Belgium and Germany). Belgian Gates were what they named the large steel frameworks that were built to block the progression of the enemy as well. |
