I think this song is about her being in love with him still but he's drifting from her, like a lot here have said. But I don't know about her making a scene everytime he tries to leave, I think it just hurts him way too much to try to leave her. Because as much as he's drifted away from her, everytime he's with her he still feels like he loves her, and he cares for her way too much to hurt her. And I think part of her knows he's changing, like it says i feel you changing shape, but she just doesn't want to believe it, she wants to believe that he loves her just like he says he does. "And she listens like her head's on fire Like she wants to believe in me". this is my favorite song by the cure. by far. and i love them. something about this song just always makes me want to cry. |

I can't completely pull if this song was about anything deeper. But I just always feel like it's about being totally lost. When I listen to it I just always feel like he's talking about being lost in the world and in yourself. And about how everyone is lost, not just himself.
Which I guess is pretty much what he said. haha. |

Something about this song makes me feel like he's being sarcastic in some ways. I do think that it's all about him hurting someone he loved, and still loves. And about him hating himself for it. But the lyrics "So call it quits or get a grip. You say you wanted a solution, you just wanted to be missed." Seem pretty harsh, it makes me thing that maybe part of him feels like she really uses what he did against more than she should. And I feel like the lines "Spring keeps you ever close, you are second hand smoke. You are so fragile and thin, standing trial for your sins." might be saying that although she always held what he did against him she wasn't an angel either. Just my thoughts though. |

i guess i always thought of this song as being about a relationship that was wanted so badly by him.. but he just couldn't get right, and it wasn't a healthy relationship. the whole song is talking about how badly he needs her, yet he also says "i need you like water in my lungs" saying that as much as he needs and loves her she's really a bad person to him. or atleast unhealthy. and saying They say that the captain stays fast with the ship Through still and storm, maybe meaning he's trying all he can to hold onto the relationship no matter what? idk but i absolutely lovee this song. it always gives me chills. |
