| Mayday Parade – The Memory Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This is how I see the song. A girlfriend, friend, whatever, someone he was close to and that he cared about passed away. Or maybe just left, but I get the vibe that he's grieving a loss. He knows he should be able to get over it and people are telling him to move on, but he can't, and it's frustrating him. He shows this by noting the passing of the seasons, and saying that he still can't stop thinking about her and the memory of her death. ("The memory" may refer to the memory of her in general or the specific memory of her death). "Walk away Barely breathing As I'm lying on the floor Take my heart As you're leaving I don't need it anymore" He's depressed and at a loss for what to do about his misery. She "took his heart" when she passed away, and he feels as if he doesn't even have one any more. "This is the memory This is the curse of having Too much time to think about it It's killing me This is the last time This is my forgiveness This is endless" In the chorus he is saying that thinking about her and everything that's happened is basically driving him crazy. A part of him wants to forget her completely but a bigger part of him feels guilty for just forgetting, so he's torturing himself with the memory. He's apologizing to her for trying to stop thinking about her. He's losing it. Long story short, a painful meory is tearing him apart, and he's torn between trying to forget it and dwelling on it until it kills him. |
