As the title clearly implies, '30 minute boyfriend' is a beautiful song about about a deep infatuation with a recent acquaintance. -I think you're pretty -I think you know it -You got a boyfriend -You just forgot him that's all -For five minutes that's all -You're my best friend that's all The first stanza describes the magic that happens when two people meet; the instant realization of mutual attraction. i.e. the sparks. (...la chispa). It also talks about the fact that the girl has a boyfriend, and how this new found attraction casually trumps that fact. -Divide and conquer -Train him to be greedy -Why would the person put the advantage by fair? this part describes how we've stumbled upon a astute lady, a worthy adversary. -Will you become what other people think of you? -I hope you don't feel lonely when you're spending time with me your friend Here we wonder if this encounter will turn into a relationship, and if she'll feel guilty if anything happens between us two. -Wish you were here with me -Wish I was there with you -I'm reaching feeling for you -I wanna be up with you again and again here we describe our heartfelt passion for this girl. this foreshadows our upcoming tragedy. -We wait for each other -But we are not lovers -I picked a good time to leave -I think it made you mad In this stanza, we meet up with this girl, and in a timely fashion ask her to leave to uh, consolidate the 'relationship'. To our surprise, she says no. -You're talking about -You're talking about what I'm saying -Now She makes a fuss about it. -Wish you were here with me -Wish I was there with you -If you wanna talk I think we should -But me and where don't work so good We realize that even though we like this girl, we wont get anything from her. We try to work it out, but we are pragmatic and demand a straight answer pronto. -Will you become what other people think of you? -I hope you're not too lonely when I'm spending time with my old friend She likes us, but for some reason decides not to go any further. we can still get another girl, but deep down we want her. (we've failed to 'get jake laid') "Will you become what other people think of you?" deals with moral issues; Where before in a previous stanza she was a potential cheater, she is a now a flirt. -Oh oh -Yeah -Okay -Subtle indications dribble away which you don't care about -Yeah -Okay -Go This part is powerful emotional progression: shock, denial, realization, more pain, acceptance (okay go) This is the part that makes you cry your eyes out. - I think this song is musical master piece. Not only are the lyrics pure poetry, but the music is rich with emotions and feelings. 10/10 -T. |
