| @[george7hh:38867] I quite like the pathos of the Jimmy Lafave version. Has the beautiful piano intro from the Ronstadt version | |

And that's just the problem isn't: we don't WANT to believe it's about a prostitute, even when Bruce says it is. It just isn't nice. I also don't want to believe that. However, this is art. Art is supposed to reflect and magnify real-life truths, make you stop and think, even if it's by shocking you and by using unpleasant feelings. I've come to reconcile it by realising that this song isn't glorifying prostitution, it's rather revealing the sad truth that it's only fake love. |

This is one of the songs on Day and Age that is a general criticism of the world we live in. It's mourning the fact that people are losing the practice of communication through modern technology. "are we human? or are we dancer" = "Get your iPods out of your ears and start talking to people!!!" |

This is a cheeky way of saying to people that the grass isn't greener on the other side. It's about a man who was disenchanted with life. Then he got abducted by aliens, and suddenly he realised "Hang on guv, my life isn't that bad after all" It's one of the songs on Day and Age that is a general criticism of today's world. |
