I actually heard from my father that this song was improvised, however to what extent I am unaware of. For example, Waits could have originally improvised the song as it is in the recording. However, the chances are slim that the one Waits released was improvised - he most likely took the EXACT improvisation and redid it for the album. Nonetheless, GREAT song. This man is a freaking genius. |
