My interpretation of the song is that this guy is serious about his relationship with the girl, and she isn't. She's on the fence, and he's still waiting for her. He's formed something of an obsession for the girl and he can't just be friends with her because of it. It hurts him. So he's saying that if she's ready to be serious, he'll be waiting. The other side is a pretty common lyrical phrase, and it usually seems to mean the other side of life, where you do it together with a person you love, as opposed to doing it alone, and just looking for kicks from whoever you may be hanging with. |

It's really quite simple people, I can't believe how far off some of you are.
The business men drink my wine.
It's about throwing away the ideals our owners want us to embrace and to live life free from trivial pursuits of happiness. He can't sleep because he spends all night with thoughts racing about why he can't attain what's unattainable. He needs to just let go and be happy with who he is, what he's done, and what he's doing, and maybe he'll be able to sleep better.
I remember reading that mercer was suffering from insomnia when he wrote this album.

Most of you are wrong. This song is about not being able to come up with an original idea for a song, and instead borrowing from songs he's heard before in the past. It's an artist admitting he's not as good as he thinks he is, and that his art is just building on what's come before him, just like the last guy who had an audience. |
