| Brand New – Flying at Tree Level (Version 1.0) Lyrics | 15 years ago |

---> rb: uh, no. this is, in fact, flying at tree level (version 1.0) this isn't even on the same album that Play Crack the Sky is. Play Crack the Sky starts out with the lyrics "We sent out the S.O.S. call. ,it was a quarter past four, in the morning when the storm broke our second anchor line. Four months at sea. Four months of calm seas to be pounded in the shallows off the tip of Montauk Point... They call 'em rogues. They travel fast and alone. One hundred foot faces of God's good ocean gone wrong. What they call love is a risk..." so on, and so on. ---> updowndead: This is a Brand New song, if you listen to it you can tell it's Jesse Lacey's voice. But I don't think it is on an album. ---> American Horse: The only way I have it was through uTorrent, I have no idea what album it is on. |

This song is so damn tragic... It's clearly about heroine, as stated before. I can't speak for Trent himself but to me this seems like the exact depiction of an addicts life. He knows he's hurting himself by shooting up, but he does it just to forget. To forget all the pain he's endured in his lifetime. But although he's getting high, trying to forget it all always just comes back to him. Then he asks himself, who he is anymore, he's not himself but the drug. The dope is his only friend, and it's such an intimate relationship because everyone else has left him, except for the drugs. Then he's talking about the people that try to help him, he feels like he has nothing worthwhile in his life, and the person who cares about him he just thinks "I have nothing good, if you want it so bad then take it. Take my empire of dirt. I won't ever have anything good for you, all I will do is make you hurt." His only friend anymore is the dope. He sees everyone moving on without him, maybe for better or for worse but he's still right where he feels he is destined to be. The dope has it's grip on him, so he's still right there... and he wants to break free. He hates who he has become. He would do anything to start over, but he's still right there with his only friend. Heroine. God. I don't know if this makes sense, this song has a lot of sentiment to me... I am in love with this dope sick boy and this is one of his favorite songs. I think because it's how he feels, precisely. And it's such a sad thing to hear, to hear that there are other people caught in this fucking trap, the grip that dope has on people. Anywho, rant done. |

| Modest Mouse – Bankrupt on Selling Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Well, all the apostles, they're sitting in swings saying, "I'd sell off my savior for a set of new rings and some sandals with the style of straps that cling best to the era" So all of the businessers in their unlimited hell, where they buy and they sell and they sell all their trash to each other, but they're sick of it all. Oh, and they're bankrupt on selling. And all of the angels, they'd sell off your soul for a set of new wings and anything gold. They remember the people they loved, their old friends and I've seen through them all, seen through them all and seen through most everything. All the people you knew were the actors. All the people you knew were the actors. Well, I'll go to college and I'll learn some big words. And I'll talk real loud, goddamn right I'll be heard. You'll remember the guy who said all those big words he must have learned in college. And it took a long time until I came clean with myself, I'd grown clean out of love with my lover... I still love her, loved her more when she used to be sober and I was kinder. This is my interpretation of the song; I feel that this song is about addicts. We all can semi-tell that Issac did drugs, right? His lyrics make so. much. sense. when you're mind is opened. Okay, so I think that he is comparing the life of drugs with heaven and hell. "Well, all the apostles, they're sitting in swings saying, "I'd sell off my savior for a set of new rings and some sandals with the style of straps that cling best to the era" So all of the businessers in their unlimited hell, where they buy and they sell and they sell all their trash to each other, but they're sick of it all." When you're experiencing a high, it's like the apostles sittin' in their sort of pedestal, but knowing the comedown is soon. That they'd do anything to prolong their highs, their euphoria. ...oh, and they're bankrupt on selling. Addicts get sick of buying and selling littler drugs just to get the high they're craving... It kinda seems like Issac is realizing that this life he's living isn't what he wants and he makes the plan to go off & get out and do something with himself so that he's remembered but it's not exactly adequate... and he finally gets it. "And it took a long time until I came clean with myself, I'd grown clean out of love with my lover... I still love her, loved her more when she used to be sober and I was kinder." But realizes that you can't always have it all, I suppose. I don't know, this was a nice rant... not too sure if any of it makes sense. I can't articulate too well. Anyways, Issac is God. No lie, he's so brilliant it's scary. Peace. |
