OK, I'm gonna go for a more shallow reply of, well, mental illness, but I think it makes the most sense. Blake uses Alaska, or the picture of, to escape from his own head. No matter what's happening around him, he still finds solace in Alaska ("It's still cold in Alaska", while the world around him heats up). He's socially awkward and prefers trinkets and gadgets to real people - leaving Amanda (or the singer) despite the "promise" he made to her. |
