| Slow Club – Half Drunk Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Well, meaning is pretty obvious, but I am just half-drunk sitting here and really digging Rebecca's part at around 1 minute. And I'm just hoping... lalaladida. | |
| Ryan Adams – Nuclear Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Love this interpretation. I'd probably consider braves to be the native americans since their logo is an native American (I think, I am not american nor di I follow baseball). The Yankees are therefor the settlers, the railroad companies, the army, those who fought against against the indians for land, progress and "civilization"... | |

I wanna stand, but I'm talking to a cop There's piss on my boots, how'd ya make it stop The dancepack's looking for a crash pad spot I'm all loan I'm at the top of the pack Lay to the people and maid to the pines I'll be awning That lady I'll be riding her line, whoa! I'm smoking outside the Computell I'm already never gonna fail you Shaking in your clots And no, they are not cataloging your thoughts You got one kind of trouble, it's the one that's on your back Take note, there's still a hole in your heart Take note, there's still a hole in your heart Take note, there's still a hole in your heart Take note, there's still a hole in your heart Take note, there's still a hole in your heart Take note, there's still a hole in your heart And you're shoveling shit and they pay you to talk My young little soul's unlearning to walk Clover green Like bravery done up like a towel sopping wet in the street The softening blows, the blind heights A warm winter coat, that's a corn rose The softening blows, the blind heights That's a cold tow through the corn rows Take note, there's still a hole in your heart Take note, there's still a hole in your heart Take note, there's still a hole in your heart Take note, and elope for the fore |

| Frightened Rabbit – The Oil Slick Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
My favourite song on their new album. I think it's about someone who wants to do his loved ones justice, maybe by writing a love song or actually improving himself. However the harder he tries the more impossible it gets, which is shown cleary in the refrain, a certain inability to find the right words and the impression of himself that its not good enough. "All the dark words pouring from my throat sound like an oil slick coating the wings we've grown[...]There goes a love song drifting out of my reach". While being just a song about a writing block on a love song for someone, it also tells the desire to change, that he wants to improve for his loved ones. This is shown in the last lines of the songs. The inability of writing a love song is just another sign of his (recent) struggle with his loved ones. |

| The National – Afraid of Everyone Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| He's simply afraid of everyone, and the endless repetition of those words certainly makes me calm. Maybe it's just because I'm lately reading a lot of Bukowski again but Buk says in several of his books something similar. Things like he doesn't like people, because he's afraid of them. And he drinks because there's not that much to do else, or writes. In this context the protagonist obviously is just afraid of everyone and explains his situation. Matt being now married sings of course of family, which is kinda the main thing in his life now. Other people (like Buk for instance) have writing, drinking or their jobs. But hell, he's afraid, just trying to get through and not to hurt anybody he likes, because he's afraid of losing them because he most certainly loves them, they are swallowin his soul and they most certainly mean a lot to them. They are not just bypassers or hitchhikers on the road called "life", they are life itself for them and for that he's damn afraid of anyone who can or will take it away from him and he's afraid of them maybe too, maybe because he never felt that way before. And yeah, sure, life's good to them, having family and shiny new starspangled tennis shoes, but that doesn't take the sorrow or strain (or smthg else) off his shoulders. He needs more, maybe a good glass of whisky, just the drugs to sort it out, to make him love people again and not to be afraid, because frankly a lot of ppl are more confident when they are drunken or on drugs. | |
| The National – Gospel Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| With that comment you pretty much nailed the song (and myself). Wonderful song. | |
| Mumford & Sons – I Gave You All Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"if only i had an enemy bigger than my apathy i could have won" I think he fell in love with her but never saw any chance or reason to say that he loves her. An enemy (another man in her life or that she's moving or anything) would have forced him to tell her his true feelings instead of just being with her. Now he realises that and although he gave her all he never spoke of that. It reminds me of a line in a french movie called "Les choses de la vie" which is sort of: "You love me, but you love me because I am here...If I'd live just across the street, you would be too lazy to come over." Due to the early comfort of love the writer probably forgot how to fight for it. |
